Electroplating industry pegged at Rs 12,000 cr on back of high EV demand

Backed by the high demand for electric vehicles, batteries, and hydrogen, the electroplating industry in the country is estimated to be at Rs 12,000 crore, a top industry official said. Homi Bhabha National Institute Vice-Chancellor U Kamachi Mudali said the electroplating industry globally was expected to grow to USD 30 billion. The sector has over three lakh electroplaters present across the country, Mudali noted at the fourth edition of Surface and Coating Expo 2023 here organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). "This (surface and coating) industry today is estimated to be about Rs 12,000 crore. Globally, this industry is expected to grow to USD 30 billion 2030 from the current USD 20 billion." EV plant, battery manufacturing unit to come up in Pune and Aurangabad

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said an electric vehicle facility and an EV battery manufacturing unit in Pune and Aurangabad, respectively, are among the Rs 40,000 crore worth of projects sanctioned by the state government. Talking to reporters here, Shinde said the EV and battery manufacturing units will come up with an investment of Rs 12,482 crore. He said a private company, Gogora India Pvt Ltd, will set up 12,000 battery swapping stations across the state in the next few years. A battery swapping station is a place where EV owners can quickly exchange their empty battery with a fully charged one. The CM said these projects will provide a boost to the fast-growing EV sector.

Tata Motors expects EVs to be 50% of passenger vehicle sales by 2030

Tata Motors expects electric vehicles to account for half of its passenger vehicle sales by 2030, according to the company's Annual Report for 2022-23. The company, which has set a target to attain net zero emission by 2040, said it is "spearheading this mission with the support of our Gen 3 EV architecture strategy." "The EV contribution in our portfolio is likely to increase to 25 per cent in 5 years and reach 50 per cent by 2030," the report said. The company's current EV portfolio comprises the flagship SUV Nexon EV range, Tiago EV, Tigor EV and the XPRES-T EV. It sold 50,043 units of EVs in 2022-23, while its total passenger vehicle sales stood at 5,40,965 units. Tata Motors said its Tiago EV launched in FY 2022-23 has "accelerated the EV adoption by making it accessible to masses and received strong response with around 10,000 bookings on the first day". BYD India partners Bajaj Finance for dealer finance, vehicle loans

Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD's subsidiary BYD India has signed an initial pact with Bajaj Finance for access to finance to its dealers and customers in the country, the company said on Wednesday. Delhi has become India's electric vehicle capital: CM Arvind Kejriwal

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the cost of using electric vehicles in Delhi is the minimum across the country, while stressing that the city has become the nation's "EV capital". Kejriwal inaugurated 42 new ultra-low-cost EV charging stations at an event at GTB Nagar. The chief minister said with the addition of these 42 facilities, Delhi now has a total of 53 ultra-low-cost EV charging stations. With an increase in the number of EVs in the national capital in the recent years, air pollution has also been on the decline, he pointed out. "Data shows that compared to 2014, the levels of PM2.5 and PM10 are lower by 30 per cent. Earlier in the year, we had several days where the AQI (Air Quality Index) was in the severe category. These were days with very high pollution levels. But now, there are hardly any such day," Kejriwal said. He said besides curbing air pollution, the EV policy was formulated by the city government as the "future belongs to electric vehicles".

Third edition of electric vehicle innovation challenge by iCreate launched

The third edition of the iCreate's electric vehicle innovation challenge -- EVangelise 23 -- was launched here on Tuesday to identify and nurture startups, which can help solve real-life challenges of the EV ecosystem by providing indigenous solutions. GO EC Autotech announces installation of 1,000 EV charging stations

Kerala-based start-up GO EC Autotech Pvt Ltd has announced the installation of 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) super-fast charging stations across the country. The company is currently operating 70 charging stations in Kerala and over 33 across India. "With the new project, we plan to expand our footprint by strategically positioning the charging stations in capitals, state highways, and national highways along with Tier-2, and Tier-3 cities and rural places in the country," the company said in a release. Auto parts maker Musashi enters India's EV space, to invest Rs 70 cr

Japanese auto parts maker Musashi on Friday announced its entry in the electric mobility space in India in collaboration with BNC Motors and said it will invest Rs 70 crore in the first phase of the business. Musashi India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Musashi Seimitsu Industries, manufactures transmission components for IC engine-powered two and four wheelers. The company said it will use its platform of design and engineering capability to manufacture its new EV unit consisting of a motor, PCU, and gear box, it said.
