India's engineering R&D revenue may cross $100 bn by 2030: Nasscom

India's engineering research and development (ER&D) sector is projected to surpass USD 100 billion in revenue by 2030, driven by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into core engineering workflows, IT industry body Nasscom said on Tuesday. The sector, which is estimated to generate USD 63 billion in revenue in FY26, is witnessing a significant shift as engineering becomes increasingly software-defined, data-driven and intelligent. "Global ER&D spending is projected to reach USD 2.482.50 trillion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 89 per cent between CY24 and CY30. With an estimated revenue of USD 63 billion in FY26, India's ER&D services revenue is projected to cross USD 100 billion by 2030. Technological disruption and a sharper focus on innovation and value are creating new areas of demand," Nasscom said. NEET uncertainty drives surge in engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu

Amid uncertainty over this year's NEET exam following alleged irregularities and the subsequent cancelleation of the test, medical aspirants are turning to engineering courses, with enrolment for Tamil Nadu engineering admissions crossing 2.5 lakh. Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) is a completely online, single-window counseling process conducted by Anna University for admission to undergraduate B.E. and B.Tech. courses in the State, based solely on Class 12 marks without an entrance exam. According to sources in the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), the online registration has started from May 3. "Within a span of 26 days, the number of applications have crossed 2.5 lakh and it is expected to touch three lakh", a senior official from DOTE said on Friday. Noting that NEET irregularities have delayed medical counselling, he said, "due to this, there is a notable shift with many medical aspirants choosing engineering admissions".
