14th edition of Habitat Film Festival to open with 'No Fathers in Kashmir'

The 14th edition of Habitat Film Festival is set to return with another set of the best of Indian cinema, opening with Oscar nominated director Ashvin Kumar's "No Fathers in Kashmir". With a selection of 42 films in more than 19 languages including Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi, and Santhali, the annual film festival will be held at the India Habitat Centre here from May 17. "Aiming for an approximation of the best of Indian Cinema year after year, this edition brings on a pan Indian selection from the current year and the year gone by with insightful post screening interactions with the directors," the organisers said. The 10-day festival will also showcase an additional selection of 45 critically acclaimed films under the Documentaries, Shorts and Student Film segments. The Akshaye Khanna - Richa Chadha starrer 'Section 375' is all set to release on August 2.Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on Twitter, saying: "Release date finalized... Actor-singer Mrinal Mukherjee dead

Veteran film and TV actor Mrinal Mukherjee died at a city hospital, family sources said Wednesday. He was 74. Mukherjee, who was suffering from cancer besides liver problems, had been admitted to the hospital on Monday and died on Tuesday afternoon, the sources said. He is survived by his daughter singer Jo Jo Mukherjee, a second daughter model Tina Mukherjee and a son actor Debopriyo Mukherjee, family sources said. Mukherjee had worked for over five decades in the Bengali film industry and acted in films like 'Dui Bon', 'Chhuti', 'Shriman Prithviraj' and more recently 'Byomkesh' and 'Chiriakhana'. Courtroom drama "Section 375", featuring Richa Chadha and Akshaye Khanna is set to hit the theatres on August 2, the makers announced Wednesday. According to a press release, the film is based on the important law that is applied to the rape cases in the country, Richa plays a tough public prosecutor arguing for the victim, played by Meera Chopra and Akshaye will be seen in the role of a best-in-the-business defence lawyer to a film director, played by Rahul Bhatt. "Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman is set to topline action drama "Yasuke", about the first black man who served as a samurai to a Japanese warlord. The 41-year-old actor will play the eponymous character, Yasuke, the Japanese name of a samurai of African origin who fought under a Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga during the 1580s. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is based on the true story of the only known African to reach the samurai ranking in feudal Japan. Doug Miro of "Narcos" fame is writing the screenplay. The film will be produced by Eric Feig's Picturestart, De Luca Productions, Solipsist Films, and Xception Content.
