Delhi govt offices to be closed from Sept 8 to 10 in for G20: Officials

All central government offices in the national capital will be closed from September 8 to 10 in view of the G20 summit, according to an order issued by the Personnel Ministry on Thursday. The G20 summit will be held in Delhi on September 9 and 10. "Recognising the magnitude of this event and the substantial logistical arrangements involved, it has been decided to keep the central government offices located in Delhi closed from September 8, 2023 to September 10, 2023 on the occasion of G20 summit to be held in Delhi," said the order issued to all central government ministries and departments. The summit will be attended by a number of heads of states and governments and heads of international organisations, it added.

G20 countries allocated a staggering USD 1.4 trillion of public funds to support fossil fuels in 2022, aiming to counter the impact of their soaring prices due to the Ukraine war and strengthen energy reserves, a new study has said. The study by independent think tank International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and partners comes as G20 leaders prepare for their summit meeting scheduled for September 9-10 in New Delhi. India, the current G20 president, has made good progress, the study says,highlighting the cut in the fossil fuel subsidies by 76 percent from 2014 to 2022 while boosting support for clean energy. This puts India in a strong position to lead on this issue, the study says. The astonishing sum of USD 1.4 trillion includes fossil fuel subsidies (USD 1 trillion), state-owned enterprise investments (USD 322 billion), and money lent by public financial institutions (USD 50 billion), according to the study. US President Joe Biden will travel to India from September 7 to 10 to attend the G-20 Leaders' Summit, the White House said on Tuesday. President Biden and G20 partners will discuss a range of joint efforts to tackle global issues, including on the clean energy transition and combatting climate change, mitigating the economic and social impacts of the Ukraine conflict, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. Public holiday in Delhi from Sept 8-10 for G20; Banks, markets to be shut

Centre to move 20-22 fresh CAPF units to Manipur, G20 Summit: Report

The Centre is expected to deploy about 20-22 fresh CAPF companies in the ethnic violence hit regions of Manipur after the withdrawal of these personnel deputed for the security of the Amarnath Yatra that is ending soon, official sources said on Tuesday. These companies will be in addition to the about 125 such units of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) that are already deployed in Manipur since violence broke out in the first week of May. It is planned that about 20-22 companies of the CAPFs-- that includes the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)-- will be deployed in Manipur in the first phase as part of "bolstering" the security grid in the state. These units are being withdrawn from the Amarnath Yatra duty in Jammu and Kashmir as it has been declared closed for pilgrims now, official sources in the security establishment told PTI. With less than three weeks to go before the G20 Summit here, civic officials on Sunday said they aim to build a thematic park to commemorate India's presidency of the bloc before the mega event. The G20-themed park will be developed on the premises of an existing one in M Block of Greater Kailash 2. "The park will have the logo of the G20 made in an artistic style, besides other artwork. It will also have stone sculptures of elephants and other animals to add to the charm," a top Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official said.
