Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh will not attend the hearing of a criminal defamation case against them at a court here on Wednesday, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said. The two AAP leaders have been summoned by the metropolitan magistrate's court on June 7 in the defamation case filed by Gujarat University over their "sarcastic" and "derogatory" statements regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree. Depression has formed over Southeast Arabian Sea and lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today, 06th June, 2023 near latitude 11.3N and longitude 66.0E, about 920 km west-southwest of Goa, 1120 km south-southwest of Mumbai, 1160 km south of Porbandar and 1520 km south of Karachi, the IMD said in a statement. The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to seek expert opinion on the condition of two century-old bridges at Gondal town of Rajkot district on a PIL seeking their repair to avoid incidents like the Morbi bridge collapse. The division bench of Acting Chief Justice AJ Desai and Justice Biren Vaishnav directed the state government to depute experts to physically examine the bridges and file a report by the next date of hearing on June 28. It also issued notices to the Gondal municipality and additional engineer (design) of the roads and buildings department among other respondents. A public interest litigation, filed by lawyer Yatish Desai, stated that the bridges, which are both located on Gondal river, are around a century old and in a very dilapidated condition. Road accidents in Gujarat decreased by 44 per cent in the last 10 years despite a rise in the number of vehicles, a state minister said on Wednesday. Gujarat Minister of State for Transport Harsh Sanghavi, who chaired a meeting of the Gujarat Road Safety Authority in Gandhinagar during the day, attributed this drop in the number of accidents to the efforts taken by the Gujarat Road Safety Authority in reducing the time taken for transporting the victims from the accident sites to nearby hospitals. During the meeting, Sanghavi informed the stakeholders that though the number of vehicles have increased since 2012, Gujarat has reported a decrease of 44 per cent in road accidents between 2012 and 2022, an official release said. A businessman has been arrested from Ahmedabad for allegedly availing fake input tax credit (ITC) to the tune of Rs 7.22 crore after the Central Goods and Services Tax commissionerate unearthed evasion of Rs 36.95 crore in GST involving ten non-existent firms, the CGST commissionerate here said on Wednesday. The preventive wing of CGST Ahmedabad south commissionerate found "a web of non-existent firms involved in passing of fake input tax credit by routing the invoices through a series of firms". During investigation, GST (Goods and Services Tax) evasion of Rs 36.95 crore having a taxable value of Rs 205.27 crore involving ten fictitious firms was unearthed, the CGST commissionerate of Ahmedabad south said in a release. The proprietor of one Ashapura Traders, Vihol Viramji, was arrested on May 29 for availing and utilising fake input tax credit to the tune of Rs 7.22 crore.
