Gujarat cabinet nod to set up 21 new industrial estates to boost employment

The Gujarat cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to a proposal of setting up 21 new industrial estates across 13 districts in the state, an official said. During a cabinet meeting held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel gave a nod to this proposal and also gave his in-principle approval to prepare a pre-feasibility assessment report, a release said. The pre-feasibility study would cover various aspects, such as availability of land to establish estates, demand and supply factors and agricultural production in those areas, it said. These 21 new estates, to be managed by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), will be established in Rajkot, Mehsana, Mahisagar, Bharuch, Banaskantha, Patan, Chhotaudepur, Gir Somnath, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Amreli, Anand and Junagadh districts. NHPC bags 200MW project worth Rs 1,007.6 cr from Urja Vikas Nigam

State-run hydro power giant NHPC on Wednesday said that it has received a letter of intent to build a 200 MW solar power project worth Rs 1007.60 from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam. "Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) had issued a Letter of Intent dated 16.05.2023 to NHPC Limited for 200 MW capacity Solar Power Project within600 MW GSECL's Solar Park at Khavda (GSECL Stage-1)," a BSE filing stated. The estimated financial implication for the said solar power project would be Rs.1,007.60 crore (approximately).

PM Modi visits GIFT City in Gujarat, reviews progress of ongoing projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat International Finance Tec-City or GIFT City near Gandhinagar on Friday evening, officials said. The prime minister was on a one-day visit to Gujarat. He reviewed the status of various ongoing projects at GIFT City and also interacted with the top officials of various entities which operate from the GIFT International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC). 'Illegal' promotion of 68 Gujarat lower judicial officers stayed by SC

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the promotion of 68 Gujarat lower judicial officers, including Surat Chief Judicial Magistrate Harish Hasmukhbhai Varma who had convicted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case. A bench comprising Justices M R Shah and C T Ravikumar said as per the Gujarat State Judicial Service Rules 2005, which was amended in 2011, the promotions must be made on principle of merit-cum-seniority and on passing a suitability test. "We are more than satisfied that the impugned list issued by the high court and the subsequent order issued by the state government granting promotion to district judges are illegal and contrary to the decision of this court.The same are, therefore, not sustainable," the bench said. "We stay the implementation of the promotion list. Respective promotees are sent to their original post which they were holding prior to their promotion," it said. Heatwave sweeps parts of Gujarat, Patan hottest at 45.4 degrees Celsius

Several parts of Gujarat are reeling under heatwave conditions, with Patan city in the northern region recording 45.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday, said officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here. Some respite from the condition is expected after May 13, they said. As per a weather warning issued by the IMD, heat wave prevailed at isolated pockets in Anand, Surat, Botad, Porbandar, Surendranagar and Kutch during the day and it is likely to continue in these areas on Friday as well. In an advisory, the IMD said people should avoid direct exposure to sunlight and wear light-coloured cotton clothes to save themselves from the heat wave conditions. Fire engulfs firecracker shops in Ahmedabad, people moved to safety

A massive fire broke out in firecracker shops located in an industrial area in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat on Wednesday, prompting officials to evacuate several people from nearby residential areas as a precautionary measure. Two fire brigade officials sustained minor injuries due to the bursting of firecrackers, officials said. 95% of missing women found and reunited with kin in 5 years: Gujarat Police

The Gujarat Police on Tuesday said 39,497 out of 41,621 women who went missing in the state between 2016 and 2020 have been traced and reunited with their families, and currently only "1000 plus" women remain missing. The police dismissed as "misleading" and "half-truths" the reports published by some media outlets that cited NCRB data to claim that more than 40,000 women have gone missing in Gujarat in five years. "The same NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) report also mentioned that more than 39,000 women were also found during that period (2016-20)," said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Narsimha Komar. He said as per the 'Crime in India' report published by NCRB, 41,621 women went missing in Gujarat between 2016 and 2020, but the same report also says that 39,497 missing women have been traced by the police and reunited with their families in the same period. BJP functionary shot dead while waiting for wife in SUV in Gujarat

A local BJP functionary was shot dead allegedly by unidentified persons on Monday morning when he was waiting in his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) for his wife to return from a temple near Vapi town in Gujarat's Valsad district, police said. The motorbike-borne assailants came near the SUV of Shailesh Patel in Kocharva village and fired three-four rounds at him, an official from Dungara police station said. The Gujarat High Court on Thursday granted bail to the three security guards who were deployed on the suspension bridge in Morbi town when it collapsed on October 30 last year claiming more than a hundred lives. While granting relief to them, Justice Samir Dave took into account their lawyer's submission that they were merely doing their job and played no role in the decision-making process that led to the tragedy. More than a month after four members of a family from Gujarat's Mehsana district died while trying to cross into the US from Canada, the Mehsana police have lodged an FIR against three agents allegedly involved in the illegal immigration racket, an official said on Thursday. Gujarat govt to recruit 10,000 panchayat employees in two years: Minister

Gujarat Minister of State for Panchayat Bachubhai Khabad on Wednesday said his department will recruit as many as 10,000 employees through direct recruitment in the next two years. Khabad was addressing an event at the Mahatma Mandir convention centre in Gandhinagar where 1,760 youngsters, who were recently selected as multipurpose health workers, were handed over appointment letters. Over 1,700 health workers to get appointment letters in Gujarat on May 3

As many as 1,760 youngsters who were selected as multipurpose health workers will receive appointment letters at a function in Gandhinagar on May 3, an official said on Tuesday. Gujarat Energy and Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai will hand over the appointment letters at Mahatma Mandir, a convention centre in the state capital, he said. The Gujarat Panchayat Service Selection Board had chosen 1,760 youngsters from nearly 41,000 candidates who had appeared for the competitive exam held in June last year, and a final merit list of selected candidates was published in March, the official said.
