Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday said that India would continue buying crude oil from Russia if it is available at a discount emphasising that the government is "committed" to buying the most economically-priced crude oil. "We used to buy less than 0.2 per cent from Russia in February 2022. Now, we are buying 30 per cent. If it's available at good discounts, we will buy it. If it (crude oil) is available elsewhere (at a discounted price), we will buy (from that market)," Puri, who is Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said during a media interaction here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "commitment is to make energy available round the clock in the most affordable manner, along with the transition to green energy", the minister said. "We are not committed to buying any quantity from anyone. We are committed to buying the most economically priced energy of a grade of crude that you (refineries) want." He said that the government was open to entering both long terms as

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday said India's energy security will fuel the country's bid to become a USD 4 trillion economy much earlier than the projected 2027. Puri was addressing a session at the 7th Mangaluru Literary Festival on Saturday. He said the International Monetary Fund has projected India to reach there by 2027. But if the present trajectory continues, India will arrive there much before that, Puri said. The seventh edition of the festival was inaugurated by legendary Kannada writer S L Bhyrappa at the T M A Pai Auditorium. Following the inauguration, Puri delivered his key note address on India's energy security. According to Puri, there is no shortage of fossil fuel in the world. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded the arrest of Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri, alleging he has all the data on the places he has made the Rohingya infiltrators settle down in Delhi. Puri hit back accusing Kejriwal of playing with national security. The politics over Rohingya immigrants living illegally in Delhi has intensified ahead of Assembly polls with the BJP accusing AAP of helping Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators settle down in the national capital and using them as vote bank in elections. The Delhi Police, following directions from Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, has launched a campaign to identify and deport the illegal immigrants. In a press conference, Kejriwal said, "Arrest Hardeep Puri because he has all the data on where he has made the Rohingya immigrants to settle down in Delhi... He (Puri) has told about this in a tweet (post on X). "Why are they working so hard and creating drama? Hardeep Puri and Amit Shah have all the dat
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, accusing the BJP-led Centre of settling "a large number of illegal Rohingyas" in different parts of the city. With the AAP targeting Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri over his tweets and claiming that settling these refugees here was a "conscious decision" of the BJP-led NDA government, the minister accused AAP of indulging in "politics of diversion, false narratives and half-truths". In the run-up to the Delhi Assembly polls due in February 2025, the ruling AAP and BJP have been hitting out at one another over the issue of illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi people staying in the national capital. The BJP has already complained to the Election Commission about illegal Rohingyas and Bangladeshis registered as voters in Delhi "at the behest of AAP". Citing two tweets by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in 2022, Atishi alleged the Union government has settled a large number of illegal Rohingya refugees in ...
State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has made four more discoveries since it first made an oil field near Asokenagar in West Bengal six years back but is still awaiting the state government's nod for a petroleum mining lease to develop them, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday. ONGC notified the first Asokenagar discovery in Block WB-ONN-2005/4 on September 24, 2018, Puri said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. The discovery, he said was the outcome of continuous exploration efforts of ONGC in the Bengal sedimentary basin over five decades. As per initial laboratory studies, crude oil, which is refined into fuels like petrol and diesel, discovered in the Ashokenagar discovery is a light variety with American Petroleum Institute (API) gravity of 40-41 degrees and is almost similar to Bombay High and Brent Crude. "ONGC, accordingly, applied on September 10, 2020, to the Government of West Bengal for a grant of Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) for an
A bill to amend the existing law governing exploration and production of oil and gas will provide policy stability to investors as also promote ease of doing business, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Friday. Speaking at the Geo India 2024 conference in Greater Noida, on the outskirts of the national capital, the minister said the government's reforms agenda to make it easier to find and produce crude oil (which is refined into fuels like petrol and diesel) and natural gas (which is used to generate power, make fertilizer or turned into cooking gas and CNG) will continue. He promised interference-free administration. "If you have a private sector company which is family owned, you still have interference. But if you have well run state oil companies as our oil firms are, and you have a minister like me, you will have zero interference. I have said that repeatedly," he said. The Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha in .
Government hoping to pass Oilfield Amendment Bill in upcoming winter session of Parliament, oil minister says
India, the world's third largest oil consuming and importing nation, is hoping that more oil production coming from the western countries like the US and Canada will calm the markets and bring stability in prices, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Thursday. Speaking at CII's 12th PSE Summit here, Puri said countries in the western hemisphere are adding more production which may influence oil producers cartel OPEC to also raise output to earn more while the era of fossil fuel lasts. Volatile oil prices upset economies reliant on imports for meeting their needs as they not just have to spend extra on buying the fuel but also import inflation that impacts purchasing powers of their people. "Today more production is coming on the global market from the Western Hemisphere. Brazil, Guyana, Canada and the US are adding more production... with more and more oil coming, one expects as a result that the market situation will calm," he said. This would also at some stage lead to ...

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri alleged that Congress is losing strength because of its 'ill-conceived and badly thought-through policies' and that its leaders are 'getting frustrated'
Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday took on Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for "delusional opinions", saying the opposition party was using "lies, fabricated figures and fake data" in its classic shoot and scoot policy. In a series of post on X, Puri quoted data to counter Kharge's assertions saying the Modi government's inclusive development policies will make the country a developed nation by 2047. "Congress Party and Mr Kharge seem to be oblivious of the changes that have transformed the lives of Indians for the better," he said. The Modi government has pulled more than 24 crore Indians out of multidimensional poverty. This was aided by construction of more than 11 crore toilets, 12 crore tap water connections, over 10 crore free cooking gas connections, healthcare, bank accounts for 51 crore, three times hike in capital expenditure, and policy reforms such as GST, startup India, IBC and PLI scheme. "We ensured the price of petrol and diesel did not rise even when

India will be able to navigate through any oil supply shock that may result from the potential widening of the conflict in the Middle East, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday. International oil prices have flared to near USD 79 per barrel from about USD 70 per barrel in just over a week's time, as the market waited to see if Israel would retaliate against Iran for the October 1 missile attack. "There is no cause for panic," Puri said. "More than enough oil is available in the world." While India, the world's third largest oil importing and consuming nation, is more than 85 per cent dependent on imports to meet its crude oil needs, the situation is "manageable", he said. "There is no need for concern." "We are pretty confident we will be able to navigate as we had done in the past," he said. This is primarily because the market is awash with oil supplies and if some parties hold back production or there are supply issues, there are new suppliers in the market to fill i
