Cong promises clean, green Haryana for civic polls, releases manifesto

The Congress on Sunday made a slew of promises to woo urban voters in Haryana as the party released its manifesto for the upcoming urban local body elections. Party leaders appealed to the electorate for a full majority for the Congress. Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the party's state chief Udai Bhan and former minister Ajay Singh Yadav, among others, were present at the manifesto release event in Gurugram. Elections for four municipal councils, 21 municipal committees and seven municipal corporations -- Faridabad, Gurugram, Manesar, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak and Yamunanagar -- will be held on March 2. Polling for the Panipat Municipal Corporation will take place on March 9. Hooda said the state's BJP government could not provide basic facilities despite holding office for 10 years. Punjab gets Rs 5,421 cr, Haryana Rs 3,416 cr for rail infra boost: Vaishnaw

The government has allocated Rs 5,421 crore to Punjab and Rs 3,416 crore to Haryana in the Union Budget to strengthen its rail infrastructure, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Monday. This year's allocation was 24 times more than what Punjab received from 2009-2014 (Rs 225 crore), the Railway Minister said in a video conference. Haryana received Rs 315 crore for its railway projects between 2009 and 2014 and this year's allocations is 11 times that number, the minister said. Vaishnav said 30 Amrit stations are being developed in Punjab at a cost of Rs 1,122 crores, and that 34 Amrit stations are being developed in Haryana at a cost of Rs 1,149 crore. In Punjab, Amrit stations are being developed in Abohar, Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib, Beas, Bathinda, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar Cantt, Mansa and Malerkotla, among others. DVC signs 25-year PPA with Haryana to supply 800 MW power from 2028

The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has inked a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) to export 800MW from 2028-29, a senior official said on Wednesday. The agreement marks a significant milestone in the partnership between DVC and HPPC, building on their existing PPA, under which the corporation already supplies 300 MW to Haryana from its operational units. The agreement, signed with the approval of the power ministry, will enable DVC to supply 800 MW from its three upcoming thermal units to Haryana. "Under the agreement, DVC will supply 300 MW from its Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase-II (2x660 MW), 300 MW from Koderma Thermal Power Station Phase-II (2x800 MW), and 200 MW from Durgapur Thermal Power Station (1x800 MW). 101 farmers to resume Delhi march from Shambhu border on Jan 21: Pandher

A group of 101 farmers will resume on January 21 their march to Delhi from the Shambhu border point to press the government to accept their demands, including a legal guarantee for minimum support price for crops, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said on Thursday. Haryana BJP chief Mohanlal Badoli and a singer were booked after a woman alleged that she was gang-raped by them in a hotel in Kasauli. Himachal Pradesh Police has registered an FIR against the two men, officials said on Tuesday. PTI reached out to Badoli but no response was received. According to the complainant, the two men made videos of the act and threatened to kill the victim if she disclosed the incident to anyone, they said. Farmers at Punjab-Haryana border to meet SC-appointed committee today

A delegation of the protesting farmers at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana will be meeting the high-powered committee appointed by the Supreme Court at around 3 pm Monday. Among the protesting farmers is also septuagenarian Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite fast for the past 40 days, and whose health concerns has kept the Punjab government on toes with the top court keeping a close watch.
