Noting that only a healthy society can build a prosperous country, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Saturday Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that as the country is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, it is necessary to make it healthy. He was speaking at the inauguration of the two-day Community Health Officers Conference organised at Rudraksh Convention Centre here on the occasion of International Universal Health Coverage Day. India reports 241 fresh Covid-19 cases; active tally declines to 4,244

India logged 241 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases further declined to 4,244, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. The total tally of Covid cases stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,74,190). The death toll has climbed to 5,30,647 with nine fatalities which includes six deaths reconciled by Kerala. While two deaths were reported from Karnataka, one was from Kerala in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.80 per cent, according to the ministry website. A decrease of 11 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. India reports 166 fresh Covid-19 cases; active tally dips to 4,255

India recorded 166 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases declined to 4,255, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The total tally of Covid cases stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,73,949). The death toll climbed to 5,30,638 with five fatalities which includes three deaths reconciled by Kerala. One death each has been reported from Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated. Former Health Secretary Preeti Sudan becomes UPSC member: Personnel min

Former Health Secretary Preeti Sudan on Tuesday took oath as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), according to a Personnel Ministry statement. The UPSC conducts civil services examination annually in three stages -- preliminary, main and interview -- to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others. Sudan, a 1983-batch (retired) IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, was administered the oath by UPSC chairman Manoj Soni at the central hall of the main building of the commission here, it said. She superannuated as the health secretary in July 2020. Sudan also served as Secretary, Department of Food & Public Distribution, and in the ministries of Women and Child Development and Defence. Govt has identified AMR as key priority in national health policy: Centre

The government has identified antimicrobial resistance as a key priority in its national health policy and a series of initiatives have been taken to build systems to counter it, Union minister Bharti Pawar said on Friday. Pawar was delivering India's national statement at the third Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on AMR at Muscat in Oman. The minister of State for Health said India's example of prioritizing the development and implementation of state action plans for containment of AMR is a best practice that can be further discussed and emulated by other countries, a Union Health Ministry statement quoting the minister said.
