After flying back from Everest to Kathmandu, Kami Rita was greeted by the waiting crowd at the airport. His wife hugged him and the crowd covered him with a cream-coloured scarf and offered him yogurt. He told reporters he was very happy but exhausted. Rita reached Everest's 8,850-metre peak on Tuesday, the second time he had climbed to the summit in a week. He also reached the top of the world's highest peak on May 15, then returned to base camp before climbing again this past week. Two more Indian mountaineers die on Mount Everest, toll of Indians rises to 8

Two more Indian climbers have died on Mount Everest due to an hours-long 'traffic jam', taking the toll to 8 of the Indian mountaineers who perished in their expedition to the world's highest peak during this season. Nihal Bagwan, 27, and Kalpana Das, 49, died along with two other climbers above the 8,848-meter Mount Everest while descending the summit, the expedition organisers said. 'Traffic jam' occurs on Mount Everest when many climbers vie for the summit at the same time, and can be especially dangerous above 8,000 metres known as the 'death zone'. Bagwan who is from Maharashtra breathed his last at Camp IV on Mount Everest on the Nepal side after he was rescued by a group of Sherpa climbers from the balcony area, said Babu Sherpa, Managing Director at Peak Promotion Pvt Ltd. Indian climbers get maximum permits to scale Mount Everest

Nearly 80 Indian climbers were allowed to scale Mount Everest this season, the highest in a list of 381 international expeditioners permitted to climb the world's highest peak, an official said Friday. Indian climbers topped the list of Mount Everest aspirants this spring as 78 Indian nationals were granted permission to climb the 8,848-meter peak from the Nepalese side, Mira Acharya, Director Department of Tourism, told PTI. Americans came second with a total of 75 climbers getting the permission, Acharya said. In the past, the Europeans outnumbered the foreign climbers and very few Indians climbed the mountains, she said. Around 600 people, including international and Nepalese climbers, Sherpa mountain guides and porters have reached the summit this season. French survivor of Nanga Parbat summits Lhotse, Everest

French climber Elisabeth Revol, who was dramatically rescued last year from Pakistan's Mount Nanga Parbat, summited Lhotse Friday morning, a day after reaching the top of Everest, her expedition organiser said. "She summited Everest yesterday and reached the top of Lhotse this morning. Her health is well and she is heading down from Camp 3 now," Rishi Ram Bhandari of Satori Adventures told AFP. Everest and Lhotse share the same path until diverting at South Col at 7,900 metres (25,918 feet). Revol was attempting to summit the mountains without supplemental oxygen -- becoming the first French woman to do so -- but Bhandari could not immediately confirm if she was able to do so. Her Everest ascent clashed with dozens of other teams taking advantage of clear weather, and climbers lined up for hours to reach the top -- risking frostbite and altitude sickness. Last year, Revol and Polish climber Tomek Mackiewicz were attempting to scale the 8,125-metre (26,660-foot) Nanga Parbat in winter,

In the land of stout and spirits, Ireland's first 'dry pub'

It's happy hour in Dublin and the drinks are flowing, but in Ireland's first "dry pub" patrons are forgoing Guinness and whiskey for non-boozy beers and zero percent wine. The Virgin Mary, which opened this month, bucks the trend in a city where nightlife is fuelled by stout and spirits, offering a menu of entirely non-alcoholic beverages. Thronging with customers within minutes of opening one weekday afternoon, its popularity is viewed by its owners as a sign that hard-drinking Ireland may be changing its ways. "Drinking is ingrained in society here," said co-founder Vaughan Yates, 51, a veteran of the drinks industry. "However if you look at the Irish they are a very progressive nation, they are a very liberal nation, they're very open to change. "I think there's a real cultural shift happening globally towards alcohol and we're really at the forefront of it." Oisin Davis, the pub's other co-founder and with whom Yates works in a company making drinks mixers, said they had noticed ..

Mt Everest, the world's highest peak, on Wednesday witnessed a traffic-jam like situation as over 200 mountaineers attempted to reach the summit point, a media report said on Wednesday.
