Cutting across borders, foreign nationals on Friday performed Yoga on the occasion of fifth International Day of Yoga here.More than 100 yoga practitioners from France marked their presence to observe Yoga day at the French embassy in the national capital.Alexandre Ziegler, French Ambassador to India, told ANI, "We had more than 100 yoga practitioners this morning here. The United Nations has a "special place" in the remarkable growth of Yoga owing to the resolution passed by the General Assembly to observe June 21 as the International Yoga day, said India's permanent representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin on Thursday.Speaking at the UN General Assembly, on the occasion of fifth International Yoga Day, Akbaruddin said, "United Nations has a special place in the remarkable growth of Yoga in our own lifetimes. Appealing to people to take yoga to all sections of society, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday said yoga is above everything, as he performed various asanas with around 40,000 enthusiasts at the Prabhat Tara ground here to mark the fifth International Day of Yoga. China marks 5th International Yoga Day

427 stranded tourists evacuated from North Sikkim

Altogether 427 tourists were evacuated from North Sikkim on Thursday, four days after they got stranded in the district as torrential rain damaged road infrastructure, an official said. The district administration arranged vehicles for all the 427 tourists to reach the state capital Gangtok, North Sikkim Collector Raj Yadav said. Besides government and Army vehicles, private taxis were hired to first bring the stranded tourists to Chungthang and from there all of them were taken to Gangtok by state-owned buses, Yadav told PTI over phone from Mangan. All tourists were provided refreshments before being transported free of cost till Gangtok, he said. Medical facilities were made available to the stranded tourists, the North Sikkim DC said, adding that the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim has provided free food and lodging to all visitors at Lachen, while the Army's Gorkha Regiment and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police helped the administration in the mission. The Delhi Police has asked commuters to avoid Rajpath and its connecting roads on Friday morning as nearly 30,000 people are expected to throng the Red Fort on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, traffic officials said. To ensure smooth flow of traffic in and around Red Fort, motorists are advised to avoid Rajpath and its connecting roads as huge public gathering is expected at Rajnath on Friday up to 10 am, they said. Egypt: 11 tourists safe after hot air balloon incident

Egyptian officials say 11 tourists are safe after their hot air balloon drifted away, forcing them to land in the country's southern desert. The officials say the tourists five Indians, four Chinese, a British and an Egyptian were ballooning over ancient Egyptian temples in the southern province of Luxor when strong winds took them off course and westward into the desert. Their pilot managed to regain control of the balloon and they eventually landed safely. A search airplane located the balloon and cars were dispatched to drive the tourists back to Luxor on Thursday. The tourist officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorised to talk to reporters. Hot air ballooning over Luxor is popular, with balloons taking nearly 360 tourists over the city every day.

Chicken pieces found in veg dish in Maha Vidhan Bhavan canteen

A Maharashtra government official Wednesday alleged that pieces of chicken were found in a vegetarian dish served to him in the canteen located on the premises of the Vidhan Bhavan here. Government officials, journalists and politicians frequent the canteen as the monsoon session of the state legislature is underway.
