BJP leader compares Rahul to Aurangzeb, says he is 'last emperor' of Congress

Rajasthan BJP vice president Gyan Dev Ahuja Thursday compared Congress president Rahul Gandhi with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, suggesting that the Congress empire was coming to an end. He said the Congress president is the last emperor of the Congress sultanate, just like Aurangzeb. Like Aurangzeb who was the last emperor of the Mughal sultanate, Rahul Gandhi is the last emperor of this sultanate. The end of the Congress is certain, he told reporters here. Contrary to what the BJP leader said, Aurangzeb who died in 1707, was not the last of his dynasty. The last Mughal ruler was Bahadur Shah Zafar, who died in 1862. But Aurangzeb is often seen as the last of the prominent Mughal kings as the empire began disintegrating after him. Mamata pays tribute to Jyoti Basu on 8th death anniversary

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday paid tribute to former chief minister of the state Jyoti Basu on his eighth death anniversary. Basu, the longest serving chief minister of West Bengal, passed away on January 17, 2010. Basu had served as the chief minister of the state from 1977 to 2000. "Remembering Jyoti Basu, former chief minister of Bangla, on his death anniversary," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle. Born on July 8, 1914, Basu had led the Marxists to power for five consecutive times in West Bengal.

Earlier today, several inspectors from the city Department of Buildings visited R. Kelly's recording studio in the West Loop of Chicago and gained access to his warehouse.According to E! Online, the inspection was granted by a Cook County Judge last week after city attorneys suspected people may be living in the building even though the space has not been zoned for that purpose. Last given in 2014, govt confers Gandhi Peace Prize for 2015-2018

The government Wednesday announced the names of the winners of the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2015-2018, which were last conferred to the Indian Space Research Organisation in 2014. The annual award, however, had not seen any winner since then. It is given to individuals and institutions for their contribution towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods. Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari won the award for 2015 for rural development and education, while for 2016, the award has been jointly given to Akshaya Patra Foundation for providing mid-day meals to children across the country and Sulabh International for its work towards emancipation of manual scavengers, a release from the ministry said. In 2017, the award was given to Ekai Abhiyan Trust for their contribution to education for rural and tribal children and last year, the Gandhi Peace Prize was awarded to Yohei Sasakawa for their role in leprosy eradication. CRPF jawan cremated with full state honours in R'than

The mortal remains of slain CRPF jawan Mahesh Meena were consigned to the flames with full state honours at his native village in Rajasthan's Sikar district on Wednesday. Meena died on Monday while undergoing treatment for the past nine days after getting critically injured in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. His body was brought to Lapuwa village in Sri Madhopur area on Wednesday. A nine-km funeral procession was taken out from Reengus to Khatu. His 14-year-old son, Harshit, lit the funeral pyre. The Women and Child Development Ministry has shortlisted 26 children for the national award this year for their exceptional achievement in the fields of innovation, sports, arts, social service, or any other area deserving recognition, according to an official statement. In the past, the National Bravery Awards were organised by an NGO named Indian Council for Child Welfare. Recently, the financial integrity of the ICCW was questioned by the Delhi High Court during the hearings of a writ petition, the statement of the WCD Ministry said. In view of this, the government dissociated itself from the ICCW and revamped the scheme of the National Awards for children last year to include bravery as an additional component in the Pradhan Mantri National Children Awards, the statement said.
