US President Donald Trump on Friday claimed Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize over his outreach to North Korea but said he did not expect to win the coveted award. Pak court acquits all accused in Pakistani-Italian woman's murder case

A Pakistani court on Friday acquitted all the accused in the murder case of a 26-year-old Pakistani-Italian woman Sana Cheema. District and Sessions (Gujrat) judge Amir Mukhtar Gondal ordered the release of the father of Sana Cheema's father Ghulam Mustafa Cheema, her uncle Mazahar Cheema and her brother Adnan Cheema on "benefit of doubt". In a suspected case of honour killing, Sana was by her father, brother, and uncle for resisting their proposal to marry a relative. The three killed thw woman in her hometown of Mangowal in Gujrat, some 150kms from Lahore, in April last as she wanted to marry a man of her will in Italy. Declaring her death as "accidental", her family buried her in a graveyard far from their residence. Pakistani-origin UK peer accused of exploiting women

A Pakistani-origin member of the House of Lords has embroiled in accusations that he used his position to exploit vulnerable women who came to him seeking help. Lord Nazir Ahmed, who is at the forefront of anti-India campaigns including backing pro-Khalistan groups in the UK, is alleged to have conducted a sexual relationship with a woman after she asked him for help, according to a BBC report. Another unnamed woman who had sought Ahmed's assistance also claims he suggested she should spend the night at his London home, it said. Ticket collector among 3 killed after falling off local trains

Three persons, including a ticket collector, Friday died after falling off crowded suburban trains in two separate mishaps here, the Railway Police said. In the first incident, Arun Gaikwad, a TC with the Central Railway, fell off a local train at Umbarmali, a station on the Kalyan-Kasara section of the suburban network, and suffered serious injuries, they said. The injured TC was rushed to the Sahapur rural hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, the police said. Gaikwad was on duty and checking tickets on the train when the mishap took place, they said. In the second mishap which took place at about 10.30 am, two commuters died after falling from a speeding suburban train near Mumbra railway station, the police said. The duo, Maved Shaikh (20) and Mohammad Imran Shaikh (24), residents of Mumbra town in Thane district, died instantly, they said.

Pall of gloom descends on Jharkhand's village after killing of CRPF jawan in Pulwama attack

A pall of gloom has descended on Pharsma village of Vijay Soreng, who was among the 40 CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack. "I feel proud of the martyrdom of my son. I expect from the government of India to avenge the killings," Brish Soreng, a retired army person and the father of Vijay Soreng, told news persons visiting his home on Friday. A CRPF officer gave the sad news of Vijay's death to his family last night following which villagers have been flocking his home in Pharsma village in Basia block of the district, about 94 km from capital Ranchi. Vijay's mother said she wants a revenge for the terror attack. Basia sub-divisional Officer Vinod Kumar, the block development officer and the circle officer also joined the grieving family members. Bharat Ratna to Bhupen Hazarika: Honour for me; my statement was misinterpreted, says son

Tej Hazarika, son of noted Assamese singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika, on Friday clarified that his earlier statement was misinterpreted.According to sources, Tej has claimed that it is an honour for him and his family to receive the Bharat Ratna conferred on late Bhupen Hazarika.In a letter to the Government of India, Tej wrote: "It is unfortunate that (some) people would completely misinterpret my public statement dated 11th February 2019 regarding the Bharat Ratna itself by sadly misrepresenting my view of it."On February 11, Tej had reportedly stated that he is against accepting the coveted award to protest against the Citizenship Bill, which seeks to give citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants in Assam.Sources also informed that Tej is honoured to accept the award. A youth and a eunuch Thursday "married" in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on the occasion of Valentine's Day. Junaid Khan (30) and eunuch Jaya (32) married according to Hindu traditions at a local temple and exchanged garlands. "We are in love for the last one year and we married to formalise our relationship," Jaya told reporters here. Khan said, "We are really happy to tie the knot on the occasion of Valentine's Day. I will always keep my life partner happy." Jaya is a social worker with Badlaav, an NGO working among the LGBTQ community. Indian couple on family reunion in UAE killed in accident during desert safari

An Indian couple, on their first visit to the UAE for a family reunion, was killed and five others from the same family, including two children, were injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling crashed during a desert safari in Sharjah, according to a media report. The couple, identified as 42-year-old Rohinibahen Vinodbhai Patel and her husband 47-year-old Vinodbhai Patel, hailed from Baroda in Gujarat. While Rohinibahen died on the spot, Vinodbhai Patel suffered a cardiac arrest after the collision and died a few hours later at Al Dhaid Hospital, the Khaleej Times reported. The driver, who was from a private tour company, was speeding when he lost control over his vehicle and it flipped over multiple times on Al Nazawi Road in Madam area at around 10:30 pm on Tuesday, police said, adding that he sustained injuries and has been admitted to a hospital. India continued to draw a blank as Netherlands' Eva de Goede and Arthur Van Doren of Belgium were on Thursday named as the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) Players of the Year for 2018. Since the inception of the awards in 1998, no Indian hockey player has managed to bag the coveted awards.
