JSW Energy on Thursday said its subsidiary JSW Neo Energy Ltd has signed an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd for the procurement of pumped hydro energy storage. "JSW Neo Energy has signed a pumped hydro storage power procurement agreement (PHSPPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) for procurement of 1,500 MW / 12,000 MWh of pumped hydro energy storage," the company said. The PHSPPA is for the supply of energy storage capacity for a period of 40 years where the company will be entitled to receive a fixed capacity charge of Rs 77.2 lakh per MW per annum. The project, located in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, will be capable of a scheduled discharge of 8 hours (with maximum continuous 6 hours) per day. The project is expected to be commissioned in the next 6 years. Subsequent to this, the company's total locked-in energy storage capacity now stands at 28.3 GWh, which includes 26.4 GWh of PSP. In a significant development for hydro-power development in Arunachal Pradesh, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Limited has released Rs 269.98 crore as land compensation for the 3,097 MW Etalin hydro-electric project (HEP) in Dibang Valley. The amount was deposited into the joint account of the deputy commissioner and district land revenue and settlement officer (DLRSO) on March 26. This was confirmed during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Tawang on Thursday. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, Power Commissioner Sonam Chombay, and other senior officials were present, according to an official communiqu issued on Friday. The Himachal Pradesh government on Saturday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana for establishing 400 MW Seli and 120 MW Miar Hydro Electric Power Projects in Lahaul-Spiti district. The MoUs were signed by Secretary Power Rakesh Kanwar on behalf of the HP government and Principal Secretary of Power Sandeep Kumar Sultania on behalf of the Telangana government in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, a statement issued here said. Both the projects are expected to be set up with an estimated cost of Rs 6,200 crore on the bank of Chenab river and are set to generate direct and indirect employment to about 5,000 youth of the state. Adani Green Energy on Tuesday said its arm Adani Saur Urja has bagged an order from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) for procurement of 1,250 MW energy storage capacity from pumped hydro storage projects. Adani Saur Urja, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from UPPCL in this regard. The capacity is secured through the e-Reverse Auction conducted by UPPCL, a regulatory filing said. According to the statement, the Annual Fixed Cost payable under the LOA stood at Rs 76,53,226 per MW per annum (taxes extra) for the entire period of 40 years from the commercial operation date.

Under the agreement signed by the two entities on Sunday, NTPC and EDF propose to form a JVC with 50: 50 Partnership after requisite approval from the Government of India. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Monday approved two hydropower projects entailing an investment of Rs 3,689 crore in Arunachal Pradesh. After the Cabinet meeting, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters that the CCEA approved an investment of Rs 1,750 crore for the construction of 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project and Rs 1,939 crore for 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh. Power generated from the two projects will help improve the power supply position in Arunachal Pradesh and will also help in balancing the national grid, the minister said. The projects will be implemented through joint venture companies between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. For the Tato-I project, the central government will extend Rs 77.37 crore as budgetary support for the construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission lines under enabling infrastructure besides .
State-owned SJVN on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit during the September quarter remained flat at Rs 439.90 crore. It had posted Rs 439.64 crore profit for the period ended September 2023, the company said in an exchange filing. The company's total income rose to Rs 1,108.43 crore from Rs 951.62 crore a year ago. Its expenses shot up to Rs 528.88 crore from Rs 398.22 crore in the year-ago period. Shimla-based SJVN is into hydro power projects.
Tata Power on Monday said it has acquired 40 per cent stake in Bhutan-based Khorlochhu Hydro Power Limited for Rs 830 crore. "It has today executed the Share Purchase Agreement between the company, existing shareholder of KHPL and KHPL," Tata Power said in an exchange filing. On August 6, the Board of Directors of The Tata Power Company Limited approved a proposal for the acquisition of a 40 per cent equity stake in Khorlochhu Hydro Power Limited in one or more tranches. The cost for acquisition of a 40 per cent equity stake in KHPL is around Rs 830 crore, Tata Power had said. Tata Power said it has finalized an agreement with Druk Green Power Company to develop the hydro project in the neighbouring country at an estimated cost of Rs 6,900 crore.

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC on Monday said it has paid a final dividend of Rs 338.51 crore to the Government of India for 2023-24. In addition, an interim dividend of Rs 947.82 crore for 2023-24 was paid on March 5, 2024, aggregating a total dividend of Rs 1,286.33 crore for the entire fiscal year, the company said in a statement. Torrent Power Ltd has emerged as a successful bidder and has received Letter of Intent (LOI) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) on 17th September 2024 for procurement of 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh Energy Storage Capacity from Pumped Hydro Storage Project, the company said in a statement. THDC India on Tuesday said it has signed a pact with the Maharashtra government for harnessing six PSPs (pumped hydro power storage project) totalling 6,790 MW with an investment of over Rs 33,600 crore. State-owned hydro power giant on Wednesday reported a marginal rise in its consolidated net profit of over one per cent to Rs 1,108.46 crore in June 2024 quarter. The company had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,095.38 crore in the quarter ended on June 30, 2023, a BSE filing showed. Total income has increased to Rs 3,037.92 crore in the quarter from Rs 3,010.22 crore in the same period a year ago. State-owned REC Ltd on Wednesday said it will provide a term loan of Rs 1,869 crore for 624 MW Kiru Hydro Electric Project in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir. The loan will be utilized for development, construction and operation of the project on River Chenab, a statement said. According to the statement, REC has signed an agreement with Chenab Valley Power Project Private Ltd (CVPPPL), under which REC will provide CVPPPL with a financial assistance of Rs 1,869.265 crore as term loan. The project envisages construction of a 135-metre high dam and an underground power house with 4 units of 156 MW each. CVPPPL is a joint venture between NHPC (51 per cent) and JKSPDC (49 per cent).
