India celebrated a key milestone in its G20 presidency on Monday with the hosting of the 100th meeting of the grouping, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. It said the 100 G-20 meetings have been held in 41 cities, covering 28 states and union territories of India. "India's G20 presidency, in the build-up to the New Delhi leaders' summit on September 9 and 10, has received immense support from G20 members and guest countries for its inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and decisive agenda," the MEA said. With software exports hitting a record high of USD 320 billion in FY23, the country's share in global computer services exports has jumped to around 11 per cent in the year, according to an analysis. But the country still lags in the overall services export share at about 4 per cent, according to analysis of the trade data for FY23 by DBS senior economist Radhika Rao. According to her, the strong services trade performance will add to the improving external balance dynamics this year, which is also aided by falling commodity prices. The country's share in computer services exports in the global trade is at a significant 10-11 per cent, while the overall services exports share is only 4 per cent in 2022, according to the DBS analysis. Vietnam's national carrier Vietnam Airline on Monday announced it will connect India's financial capital Mumbai with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from May 20. As part of its summer schedule, the airline will commence four flights per week to Mumbai from Hanoi and three flights in a week from Ho Chi Minh City. Volvo Car India on Monday said it has sold 544 units in the first quarter of this year, a 38 per cent growth, over the same period last year. The automaker had sold 393 units in the January-March period of last year. The sales growth during the period was led by the XC60 which registered a 27 per cent growth, the automaker said in a statement. The locally assembled all-electric XC40 Recharge saw 138 units being delivered during this period thereby contributing 25 per cent of the total volume, it added. French tyre major Michelin is actively considering production of passenger vehicle tyres locally in India, according to the group Chief Executive Officer Florent Menegaux. The local manufacturing would help the Clermont-Ferrand based tyre major to scale up operations in India, which remain critically subdued with the government introducing import restrictions in 2020. The tyre maker, which has presence in 175 countries with 67 plants, currently sells only premium bigger size tyres in limited quantity especially for performance oriented models in India. In 2020, the government imposed curbs on imports of certain new pneumatic tyres used in motor cars, busses, lorries and motorcycles in a move to promote domestic manufacturing.
