Describing the indigenous construction of an advanced stealth frigate for the Indian navy, 'Vindhyagiri' by Kolkata's Garden Reach Shipyards as a symbol of India's self-reliance in shipbuilding, President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday launched the ship at the dock on the banks of the river Hooghly here. She also said that the production of the advanced frigate was a symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat and of technological advancement made by the country. Prez launches Navy's advanced stealth frigate INS Vindhyagiri in Kolkata

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday launched 'Vindhyagiri', an advanced stealth frigate, at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd's (GRSE) facility on the banks of Hooghly river here. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were also present on the occasion. This is the sixth of seven ships built under 'Project 17 Alpha' for the Navy. The first five ships of the project were launched between 2019 and 2022. This is the third and last stealth frigate that the Kolkata-based warship maker was contracted to build for the Navy under the project. The official said that 75 per cent of orders for equipment and systems of P17A ships are from indigenous firms, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The state-of-the-art ship will be fitted with the latest gadgets and undergo extensive trials before being handed over to the Indian Navy for commissioning into service. Stealth frigate 'Vindhyagiri' being readied for Aug 17 launch by President

The third advanced stealth frigate built by Defence PSU GRSE for the Indian Navy is being readied on war footing for its launch by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday, officials said. To be christened 'Vindhyagiri' after a mountain range in Karnataka, this is the sixth of seven ships under Project 17A. Final touches were being given to the ship before its launch by the President on August 17, as scores of workers busied themselves with various engineering and paint jobs at the GRSE's main unit on the banks of River Hooghly. Huge cranes were at work delivering material to the deck of the ship, while some items were being unloaded from it, with senior engineers supervising the final construction activities in the warship in-making, they said. The ship, being painted in ash, black and red colour, has been designed in-house by the Indian Navy's warship design bureau, as are the other P17A stealth frigates. USS Stethem conducts cooperative deployment with Indian Navy in Goa

The USA's Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) conducted a Cooperative Deployment (CODEP) with the Indian Navy following the ship's port visit to Goa, officials said on Wednesday. Indian, US navies conduct 11-day exercise to boost interoperability

The navies of India and the US carried out a 11-day military exercise in Kochi that focused on boosting interoperability and operational coordination. The seventh edition of the Salvage and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) exercise concludes on Thursday, the Indian Navy said. The two navies have been participating in joint salvage and EOD exercises since 2005. The exercise saw deployment of frontline warships from both sides in addition to specialist diving and EOD teams. "The diving teams of both the countries shared experiences on maritime salvage and trained together in various facets of EOD operations on land as well at sea," the Indian Navy said in a statement. Indian, Japanese navies kick off 6-day wargame from Visakhapatnam

The Indian and Japanese navies on Wednesday kicked off a six-day wargame off Visakhapatnam to further expand their overall military cooperation. The Indian Navy is hosting the seventh edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX) and this edition marks the 11th anniversary of wargame since its inception in 2012. The Indian Navy has deployed India's first indigenously built guided missile destroyer INS Delhi, indigenously built anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta, fleet tanker INS Shakti, a submarine, maritime patrol aircraft P8I and ship-borne helicopters and fighter aircraft for the exercise, officials said.
