'War is not Bollywood movie', says ex-Army chief on Operation Sindoor

Former Indian Army chief General Manoj Naravane has slammed questions being raised on the suspension of hostilities between India and Pakistan, saying war is not romantic and is not a Bollywood movie. Speaking at an event in Pune, Naravane said if ordered, he would go to war, but diplomacy would be his first choice. He said there is trauma among people living in the border areas, including children who have seen shelling and have to run to shelters at night. "For those who have lost their loved ones, that trauma will be carried through generations. There's also something called PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). People who have seen gruesome scenes wake up sweating even after 20 years and need psychiatric care," he said. Naravane was speaking at a programme organised by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. "War is not romantic. It is not your Bollywood movie. It is very serious business. War or violence should be the last thing we should resort to, which is why our Prim

After Pahalgam attack, India told nations it will strike Pak's terror infra

Following the Pahalgam attack, India conveyed to many world capitals, including the US, that there should be no doubts about its punitive strikes against terror camps operating from Pakistani soil, government sources said on Sunday. After the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, India communicated to various countries that its response to every Pakistani military action would be more forceful and decisive, they said. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi told US Vice President JD Vance on May 9 that Indian response will be "more forceful, stronger, devastating" in response to Pakistani actions, the sources said. Vance dialled Modi as the military confrontation between the two neighbours was significantly escalating. "In all our messages after April 22, we said we will hit the terrorists, there will be consequences. We were very, very clear from day one," said a source. "They fire, we fire. They stop, we stop. This was our message," the source said. The sources said Modi listened to

Indo-Pak situation, Q4 earnings likely to drive markets this week

The domestic stock market this week would monitor the geopolitical developments after India and Pakistan reached an understanding to stop military actions, analysts said. Moreover, macroeconomic data announcements, Q4 earnings, trading activity of foreign investors and global market trends are also likely to influence sentiments, traders said. India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea, with immediate effect after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. "This de-escalation removes a key overhang on investor sentiment and is likely to be seen as a major positive development by financial markets. Historically, markets have shown resilience and a tendency to recover following such geopolitical de-escalations," Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd, said. All eyes would be on FIIs who turned negative on Friday trading session after being continuous net buyers in the last

Indo-Pak tensions: PM Modi holds meet with Rajnath Singh, EAM, officials

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday with top government functionaries, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, a day after India and Pakistan reached an understanding to stop military actions. NSA Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and all three service chiefs were among those who attended the meeting. India had accused Pakistan of violating the terms of the understanding on Saturday night and asked it to take "appropriate steps" to address these violations and deal with the situation with "seriousness and responsibility". The situation has since cooled down even though residents in several border areas continue to live in a state of apprehension following days of shelling and drone incidents.
