Tamil Nadu inks pact with ANSR to boost GCC investments, create 10K jobs

Tamil Nadu has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with ANSR, a global leader in establishing and scaling Global Capability Centres for fortune 500 companies, the government said. This partnership marks a significant milestone in strengthening Tamil Nadu's position as one of the world's most attractive destinations for technology, innovation and high-value global services. Leveraging Tamil Nadu's dedicated GCC policy, unparalleled employability, and fastest growing tech workforce, the collaboration with ANSR is expected to generate significant investments, advance innovation capabilities and create more than 10,000 high-value GCC jobs in Tamil Nadu, a press release said. "Through this partnership, ANSR will help bring in the next wave of global corporations. We will support them with policy enablement, fast approvals, site selection and strong talent linkages," Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa said. Festive hiring in India rises 17% as gig, temporary jobs surge: Report

Overall hiring volumes grew by 17 per cent year-on-year across key consumption-linked sectors during the August-October period, driven by heightened consumer sentiment, attractive festive promotions, and wider geographic penetration, according to a report. According to the report by workforce solutions provider Adecco India, there was a 25 per cent surge in gig and temporary jobs compared to the same period in 2024. The report, based on an analysis of internal data and external reports, noted that the weeks leading up to Dussehra and beyond saw a sharp rise in temporary staffing across retail, e-commerce, BFSI, logistics, and hospitality. BFSI sector to add 250K jobs by 2030, focus on tier II, III cities: Report

India's BFSI sector is set for robust growth, with hiring projected to rise 8.7 per cent in 2025-26 and touch 10 per cent by 2030, creating nearly 2.5 lakh permanent jobs, a report said on Thursday. This growth in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector is being driven by rising demand in tier II and III cities, marking a clear shift from metro-centric recruitment. "The heartland of India is emerging as a powerful engine of talent demand in the BFSI sector, with nearly 48 per cent of new roles now originating from tier II and III cities," workforce solutions provider Adecco India said in a report. Govt cites location, duration as reasons applicants reject PMIS offers

The government on Monday said location considerations and duration of internships are among the reasons for applicants not accepting offers made under the pilot project of the PM Internship Scheme (PMIS). The scheme, announced in the 2024-25 Budget, aims to provide internship opportunities to 1 crore youth in top 500 companies in 5 years and is being implemented by the corporate affairs ministry. The pilot project of PMIS that commenced on October 3, 2024, targets to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to the youth in 1 year and in the first round, 280 partner companies posted more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities. "Against this, more than 6.21 lakh applications were received from about 1.81 lakh candidates. Partner companies made over 82,000 internship offers and more than 28,000 candidates accepted offers to join the internship. Unemployment rate dips marginally to 4.9% in 2024, shows govt survey

Unemployment rate among persons of 15 years or above slipped to 4.9 per cent in calendar year 2024 from 5 per cent in the previous year, according to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released on Wednesday. In rural areas, there is a marginal decline in overall unemployment (4.3 per cent to 4.2 per cent), with slight reductions for both men and women, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said in a release. Urban male unemployment rose (6.0 per cent to 6.1 per cent), but female unemployment declined (8.9 per cent to 8.2 per cent), keeping the overall urban rate stable at 6.7 per cent. At all-India level, unemployment saw a minor drop (5.0 per cent to 4.9 per cent), suggesting slight improvements in employment opportunities, it stated. The Supreme Court has said private employers can include a clause in appointment letters specifying that any employment-related disputes must be resolved in a particular court or jurisdiction. A bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Manmohan said a contract was a legally binding agreement, regardless of the parties involved or their strengths. "The right to legal adjudication cannot be taken away from any party through contract but can be relegated to a set of courts for the ease of the parties," it said. In the dispute at hand, the court observed, the clause did not take away the right of the employee to pursue a legal claim but only restricted them to pursue the claims before the courts in Mumbai alone. The apex court was hearing appeals filed by two employees of HDFC Bank appointed in Patna and Lord Krishna Bank in Delhi, respectively.
