Covid: Karnataka reports 8,425 new cases, 47 deaths in last 24 hours

Karnataka on Sunday logged 8,425 fresh COVID cases and 47 deaths taking the total caseload and fatalities to 38,96,158 and 39,347 respectively. In its bulletin, the health department said 19,800 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 37,58,997 while the active cases stood at 97,781. Bengaluru urban district alone contributed 3,822 fresh cases and 17 deaths today. Other districts too saw fresh infections-- Mysuru 582, Tumakuru 318, Hassan 276, Ballari 249, Mandya 241 and Belagavi 221. There were deaths in 16 districts including seven in Ballari, five in Dakshina Kannada and three in Mysuru. There were zero fatalities in 15 districts. The positivity rate for the day was 6.51 per cent and the case fatality rate was 0.55 per cent. A total of 1,29,337 samples were tested in the state including 99,023 RT-PCR tests on Sunday, taking the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 6.27 crore. Recoveries outnumbered fresh cases, which dipped to 38,083 in Karnataka on Thursday taking the tally to 36,92,496, The death toll climbed to 38,754, with 49 more deaths recorded. The state had yesterday reported 48,905 new infections. There were 67,236 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 33,25,001, a bulletin said. Of the new cases, 17,717 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 43,997 people being discharged and 12 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now at 3,28,711. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 20.44 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.12 per cent. Of the 49 deaths, 12 are from Bengaluru Urban, Ballari and Mysuru (5), Dakshina Kannada and Hassan (4), Mandya, Raichur, Thumakuru, Udupi and Uttara Kannada (2), followed by others.
