Kerala CPI(M) leader's son booked in rape case in Mumbai, denies charge

In an embarrassment to the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, the Mumbai police has registered a case of rape and cheating against the son of the party's state secretary, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The case was filed on the basis of a complaint from a 33-year-old woman from Bihar, a former bar dancer, who has alleged that Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan sexually assaulted her promising marriage and that she has a child from him. Admitting that he knew the woman, Binoy, however, said the allegation was "baseless". Six months ago, the woman had sent a letter to him demanding Rs five crore and alleging that he had married her and had a child from her, Binoy told television channels in Thiruvananthapuram. "I got married in 2008. There is no need for me to keep it under the wraps. This is a blackmailing ploy from the complainant," he said. Man held for killing paramour after relationship turns sour

A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman with whom he was having an extra-marital affair in Akola district of Maharashtra, a police official said on Tuesday. The accused, Anil Raghunath Wankhede, told the police that he killed Chhaya Dilip Gawai (45), who was already married, after their relationship turned sour following her demand for a share in his property, he said. Gawai's body was recovered from her house in Vyala village on Saturday after the police broke open its door following complaints from her relatives of foul smell emanating from there, police inspector Gajanan Shelke said. As strikes end, SC defers hearing on security of doctors, keeps open 'larger issue' of their safety

The Supreme Court Tuesday deferred the hearing on a plea seeking protection of doctors in government hospitals, saying since doctors have called off their strike in West Bengal and other states, there is no urgency to hear the matter. A bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Surya Kant said it will not issue notice (to the Centre) but is keeping the larger issue of protection of doctors open. "We agreed to hear the plea today as there was a strike by doctors and medical fraternity in West Bengal and other states. A Kerala CPM leader's son has been booked on charges of rape and cheating following a complaint filed by a woman in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday. The 33-year-old woman in her complaint alleged that Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan (37), the son of CPM's Kerala unit secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage, he said. The complainant also said that she had a child from the relationship, he said. UP man stoned to death for demanding repayment

A man was allegedly stoned to death by some people for demanding repayment of the money he had lent, police said Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday when Aman Shekher, a resident of Khedu Sudiyan village, went to Ram Kumar's home to ask for repayment of his money, they said. Following an argument between the two, the accused and his family allegedly attacked Shekher with stones, police said. J-K: Crime Branch arrests man impersonating as official in Chief Secretary's office

A man impersonating as an official of the office of Chief Secretary and duping several officers of lakhs of rupees was Monday arrested here, police said.
