Govt, industry must boost green aviation fuel with incentives: SpiceJet CMD

The government and industry have to come together and create a "significant incentive and logistic structure" for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to help reduce carbon emissions, SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh said on Wednesday. Discussions have been held with the Prime Minister's Office for allotment of spaces near airports for SAF refineries to save on transportation costs, and also with oil marketing companies, including IOC, BPCL and HPCL, to build a mini refinery for SAF production in their existing refineries, he added. "I think one of the things that we need to do is to have these SAF refineries, which are relatively simpler, probably closer to airports. If you're really serious about it. CWC to play key role in logistics cost reduction plan: Food minister Joshi

The government aims to reduce logistics costs from the current 13-14 per cent to global standards of around 8 per cent, with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) playing a crucial role in this nationwide transformation effort. "With the launch of the National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti Programme, we aim to bring down logistics costs from the existing 13-14 per cent to global standards of around 8 per cent. "CWC, as a leading warehousing organisation, is poised to support these objectives through modern infrastructure development and efficiency enhancements," Food Minister Pralhad Joshi said while addressing the CWC's 69th Foundation Day. The minister highlighted that CWC, established in 1957, has evolved into a dynamic logistics service provider with an extensive network of over 700 warehouses and an operational storage capacity of 148.29 lakh metric tonnes, an official statement said. 13 states, UTs among 'achievers' in DPIIT's logistics performance index

Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Delhi are among the 13 states and Union Territories that have been categorised as "achievers" in the logistics index chart 2024, according to a report released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Friday. The index is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth. In 2023 also, 13 states and UTs were in the achievers category. The other states and UTs in the "achievers" category are Chandigarh, Haryana, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, have been categorised as "fast movers" in the report. Logistics, Industrial spaces demand seen at 50-53 mn sq ft in 2024: Report

Leasing of logistics and industrial (L&I) spaces is estimated at 50-53 million square feet this year across eight major cities on sustained demand, according to Cushman & Wakefield. The leasing of L&I spaces stood at 53.57 million square feet across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad. Real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield said that as of October 2024, the leasing volume has already surpassed 41 million square feet across the top-8 real estate markets. "Ever since the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme was introduced by the government in 2020, the industrial leasing volume witnessed healthy growth. Besides, the strong emergence of retail and e-commerce has led to intense activity in the warehousing space too," the consultant said. Shadowfax Tech swings to profit in FY24 with adjusted PAT at Rs 2 crore

Third-party logistics provider Shadowfax Technologies on Tuesday said it has recorded an adjusted PAT (profit after tax) of Rs 2 crore in FY24, against a loss of Rs 123.8 crore in the preceding fiscal. Adjusted PAT includes costs related to Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs). Revenue grew 33 per cent from Rs 1,415 crore in FY23 to Rs 1,885 crore in FY24, according to a company statement. The Bengaluru-headquartered firm said it has "significantly diversified" its revenue streams and a major contributions now come from value-added services (VAS). "These services include Prime solutions (same day and next day delivery), reverse logistics, hand-to-hand exchange, and the rapidly expanding quick commerce (10-minute delivery). Shadowfax holds a leadership position or controls upwards of 50 per cent market share in each of these services, establishing itself as one of the most diversified 3PL (third-party logistics) players in the market today," the statement said. Proper infra, workforce key challenges for logistics industry: Experts

Lack of proper road infrastructure, land availability for warehousing and skilled workforce shortages are some of the key challenges being faced by the logistics industry, according to experts. Warehousing needs land availability in and around metropolitan cities as a pick-up in economic activities is creating demand for logistics, Assocham Secretary General Deepak Sood said. Besides, the warehousing sector in India is highly fragmented, with many small and unorganised players, leading to inefficiencies, lack of standardisation, and limited scalability, he added.
