Two helicopters carrying eight cheetahs reached Palpur near Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, following their arrival in Gwalior from Namibia in a special plane as part of the programme to reintroduce the feline in India seven decades after it was declared extinct in the country. The plane carrying the felines from Namibia landed at the Gwalior airbase shortly before 8 am, an official said. A modified Boeing aircraft, which took off from the African country Friday night, carried the cheetahs in special wooden crates during the around 10-hour journey. The animals were later taken to Palpur near the KNP in Sheopur district, 165 km from Gwalior, in two helicopters. At the KNP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is celebrating his birthday on Saturday, will release three of the cheetahs in quarantine enclosures of the park at 10.45 am. Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd (TPSSL) has received a letter of award worth Rs 596 crore from NHDC to set up a 125MWp floating solar project in Madhya Pradesh. NHDC is a joint venture of state-owned hydro power giant NHPC and the Madhya Pradesh government, a statement by Tata Power Company Ltd said on Wednesday. NHDC had invited bids early this year for this project to be set up at the Omkareshwar reservoir in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The LoA was awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding. The project will be commissioned within 13 months from the date of issuance of the letter of award (LoA) and will provide sustainable power to MP Power Management Company. With this win, the company's total utility-scale solar project portfolio touches 9.8 GWp. As on date, TPSSL's total order book stands at Rs 14,908 crore. TPSSL, a solar EPC company, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL). Tata Power holds 93.94 per cent stake in TPREL.

The Madhya Pradesh Economic Offences Wing on Monday detained P C Singh, bishop of the Church of North India's Jabalpur Diocese, from Nagpur Airport in Maharashtra for questioning in a cheating case registered against him, an official said. Last Thursday, the EOW claimed to have recovered around Rs 1.60 crore in Indian and foreign currencies from the bishop's residence in Jabalpur during searches followed the registration of the cheating case against Singh, who was then in Germany. Eleven people fell sick after consuming stale food during 'shraddh', a ritual performed to pay homage to a dead ancestor, in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district, an official said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday after 'kheer' (a sweet dish made of milk) was served to the people during the ritual in Saigon town. In the evening, 11 people including five women and two girls complained of vomiting and upset stomach. After preliminary treatment at Saigon health centre, they were referred to the district hospital, Dr Mayank Patidar from the medical facility said. The condition of all of them is stable now, he said. Out of the 11 people, a woman was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as her blood pressure was low, the official said. The food department has collected the kheer sample for testing, he said. The official said it was suspected that the milk used in the kheer preparation had turned stale which resulted in food poisoning.

More than 2,100 cattle were found infected with the Lumpy skin disease across 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh, prompting the administration to ban the transportation of bovine animals in the affected parts of the state. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during a meeting held on Friday to review the situation arising out of the spread of the disease, directed the officials that the cattle being brought into MP from other states should be banned and that extra precaution should be taken in the adjoining areas of the disease-affected districts. The authorities have already banned the transportation of cattle in the affected areas and districts. Officials said that the major symptoms of this infectious viral disease affecting cattle, are fever, nasal and lacrimal discharge, ulcers in the eye, swollen lymph nodes and a drop in milk production. The trial run for the 5.9 km-long metro rail corridor in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city will be conducted by September 2023, a senior official said. Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) managing director Nikunj Shrivastava held a meeting with public representatives and local administration. The progress of the Indore metro rail project is good. We are confident that we will conduct the trial run on the 5.9 high-priority corridor by September next year, Shrivastava told reporters on Thursday. During the meeting it was decided that the work will be expedited, and only two out of 29 metro stations will be constructed underground as per the need, he said. It was earlier proposed that six stations out 29 be constructed underground. The foundation stone for the first phase of the metro rail project was laid on September 14, 2019. The metro rail project on the 31.55 km-long route is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7,500.84 crore.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said Class V and Class VIII final examinations in government, government-recognised private and government-aided schools will be in the "board examination" pattern. He, however, did not give details of what the board examination pattern would entail. To transform rural credit delivery system, the Reserve Bank has decided to launch pilot projects to digitise Kisan Credit Card (KCC) in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Based on the learnings from the pilot, it is planned to expand the digitalisation of KCC lending to other districts in these two states and gradually across the country, the RBI said in a statement. The pilot project would entail automation of various processes within banks and integration of their systems with the service providers, it said, adding, the proposed digitalisation of the KCC lending process will make it more efficient, reduce costs for borrowers and reduce turn around time (TAT) significantly. The TAT from loan application to disbursement has also been rather high, ranging from two to four weeks.
