4 children killed, 11 injured as jeep collides with truck in MP's Ujjain

Four school children were killed and 11 others injured after the jeep in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district on Monday, a police official said. The accident took place near Jhirniya Fata in Unhel town when the children were on way to the Fatima Convent School, Nagda, Ujjain's Superintendent of Police Satyendra Shukla said. The injured children were referred to a hospital in Indore, an official said.

IMD issues red alert predicting extremely heavy rain in four MP districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a red alert warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in four districts of Madhya Pradesh, as intermittent showers continued to lash in large parts of the state. The IMD has issued red alert for Narsinghpur, Damoh, Sagar and Chhatarpur districts warning of rainfall of 115.6 mm or more, and declared an orange alert and a yellow alert forecasting heavy showers and lightning for parts of the state, an official said. The orange alert forecasts likely heavy to very heavy showers, ranging between 64.5 mm and 204.4 mm, at isolated places in the districts of Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Gwalior and Chambal divisions and 18 more districts, including Jabalpur, he said. The yellow alert warns of thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in the districts of Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Chambal, Shahdol, Rewa and Sagar divisions, the official said. 2 AAP leaders among 5 held for protest over MP's Karam dam breach

Five persons, including two members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested by the police here on Wednesday for protesting over the issue of breach in the Karam Dam in Dhar district and alleging corruption in execution of the project, an official said. They were arrested and booked under Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) section 188 (disobedience to the public servant order), he said. Among the arrested persons are state AAP spokespersons Hemant Joshi and Sanjeev Vaidya, the official said. All five were staging a protest on the Regal Square in Indore without taking permission from authorities for their agitation. The protesters blamed corruption in construction of the Rs 300-crore Karam Dam, which they alleged, led to the breach. They demanded stern punishment for those who indulged in irregularities related to the dam.
