In a first, NSE listed companies' market capitalisation surpass $4 trn mark

The market capitalisation of listed companies on the NSE has surpassed the USD 4 trillion (Rs 334.72 trillion) mark for the first time ever, with the benchmark Nifty hitting its all-time high of 20,291.55 last Friday. The benchmark Nifty climbed 134.75 points or 0.67 per cent to settle at an all-time high of 20,267.90 on Friday. During the day, the benchmark reached its intra-day record high of 20,291.55. The combined market valuation of four of the top-10 most valued firms fell by Rs 23,417.15 crore last week, with IT majors Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) taking the biggest hit. Last week, the BSE benchmark advanced 540.9 points or 0.84 per cent. All the top-10 most valued firms suffered a combined erosion of Rs 1,93,181.15 crore in market valuation last week, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and HDFC Bank taking the biggest hit, in line with bearish trend in equities. Hindustan Zinc engages advisory firm for study on its plans to spin off biz

Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc has engaged a leading advisory firm to study its plans of spinning off business into three separate entities to increase its market capitalisation. Without divulging the name of the advisory firm, Hindustan Zinc Ltd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arun Misra said it will submit the report in six to eight weeks, based on which the company will take its next step. In a telephonic interview to PTI, Misra said the current market cap of the company is USD 16 billion but he believes HZL deserves a valuation of USD 25-30 billion. "Perhaps we are unable to expose the full value of Hindustan Zinc because everything is branded under one entity," he said.
