BSE on Monday launched futures and options (F&O) contracts on the BSE Focused IT Index, becoming the only stock exchange in the country to offer derivatives on an information technology sector benchmark. The BSE Focused IT Index comprises 14 leading Indian technology companies and is designed to provide investors with a focused benchmark for the country's information technology sector, the exchange said in a statement. The launch coincided with National Technology Day and is aimed at offering investors an additional tool to hedge, trade and manage risks linked to the IT sector, which remains sensitive to global economic trends, currency fluctuations and rapid technological changes. Equity-oriented mutual fund schemes garnered a net inflow of Rs 38,440 crore in April, marking a 5 per cent decline from the preceding month, amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, fluctuating crude oil prices, and concerns about global growth. Moreover, monthly contributions through SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans) declined to Rs 31,115 crore last month from Rs 32,087 crore in March,according to data released by industry body Amfi on Monday. Overall, the industry recorded a net infusion of Rs 3.22 lakh crore in April after witnessing an outflow of Rs 2.4 lakh crore in March. This was contributed by a huge inflow of Rs 2.5 lakh crore in the debt funds.
