Starting Wednesday, Delhi Metro is running two trains with their coaches thematically decorated to promote 'Travel for LiFE' campaign, helmed by the Ministry of Tourism. The global launch of 'Travel for LiFE', a sectoral programme under 'Mission LiFE' (Lifestyle for Environment), targeted towards the tourism sector took place at an event held at Bharat Mandapam here on September 27 -- World Tourism Day. The two eight-coach trains -- one each on Blue Line and Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro -- are running on the metro network, a senior official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. The livery of the coaches are wrapped with posters that promote 'Travel for LiFE, and thematic posters are also displayed in panels in interior areas of the coaches. Delhi Metro has increased the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line to 120 kmph starting Sunday, officials said. The total journey from New Delhi station to newly-built Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station will take about 21 minutes, they said. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a metro ride to reach the new station at Dwarka Sector-25. Within a month of DMRC's decision to allow commuters to carry two sealed liquor bottles in Delhi Metro trains, the Excise department of city government has red-flagged the relaxation and sought it to be changed for being contrary to the law. As per the Excise Act, only one sealed bottle of liquor like rum, vodka and whisky could be carried from one state to another, said a senior Excise department officer. The Metro trains ferry commuters between Delhi and NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad and allowing two sealed bottles to be carried by any person will be in violation of the Act, the officer added. Services on a section of Delhi Metro's Magenta Line were curtailed for several hours on Tuesday due to waterlogging on a portion of the tracks between Dabri Mor and Janakpuri West segment of the corridor, according to officials. The Magenta Line connects Janakpuri West in Delhi to Botanical Garden in Noida. "Train services on Magenta Line (Line-8 from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden) were regulated today owing to waterlogging between Dabri Mor and Janakpuri West section on the upline track (trains going towards Janakpuri West)," the DMRC said in a statement. Delhi Metro has completed the structural work on a stretch of an elevated viaduct on the upcoming Janakpuri West-R K Ashram Marg corridor of Phase 4, officials said on Sunday. The 4-km-long viaduct, starting from Majlis Park to Mukarba Chowk, connects the Majlis Park and Bhalaswa Metro stations on the corridor, they said. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has successfully completed the structural work, it said in a statement. "This particular completed stretch of the elevated viaduct is now being offered to the system contractors for track laying and traction work involving the erection of overhead electrification (OHE) masts etc. "The structural work for the viaduct shall also be completed till Haiderpur Badli soon, as just a crossing over a railway track is left there," it added. More than 74 lakh QR code-based paper tickets have been sold to Delhi Metro commuters following their launch in early May and the sale of tokens has dipped by over 30 per cent since then, officials said. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) introduced the QR code-based paper ticket system on May 8, describing the development as a move towards a "more transparent and human intervention-free mechanism". The DMRC intends to gradually phase out the concept of physical tokens, officials said. However, any future planning will keep in mind the constraints of digital technology and that not all commuters may have access to smartphones, they said. "The total number of QR code-based paper tickets sold till May 30 is nearly 74,00,854," a senior official of the DMRC told PTI. The Delhi Metro on Friday started a tunnelling drive by the Tunnel Boring Machine named "Bhoomi" from Derawal Nagar to Pulbangash on an upcoming corridor under its 'Phase IV' project, officials said. The TBM was launched at Derawal Nagar metro station site on 'Line 8', being built from Janakpuri West to R K Ashram, in the presence Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Vikas Kumar and other senior officials, they said. The length of the tunnel is approximately 3 kilometres. The depth of tunnelling will vary from 12.4 meters at Derawal Nagar station up to 25.9 m near the Najafgarh Drain. A portion of a road caved in on Saturday morning near a metro construction site in south Delhi's Maidan Garhi area, police said. The stretch of road is undergoing deep excavation work for the metro, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chandan Choudhary said, adding, no one was reported hurt in the incident. The visuals circulated on social media showed the caved-in portion of the road. Police covered the area and barred people from going near it.
The Delhi Metro has started a special drive to clear pedestrian pathways of vendors, encroachers and unauthorised hindrances caused by parking of e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws at 11 of its stations, officials said on Friday. The drive is running since May 17. The endeavour to "provide seamless and easy access to passengers at its prominent Metro stations having Multi Modal Integration (MMI) facility," the Delhi Metro said in a statement. It is undertaking the special drive to clear pedestrian pathways from vendors, encroachers and unauthorized hindrances caused by parking of e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws etc., at these stations, it added. Delhi Metro passengers will now be able to buy QR code-based paper tickets for travel on all its lines, the DMRC said on Monday, describing it the development a move towards a more transparent and human intervention-free mechanism. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation also said it will gradually phase out the concept of physical tokens. At present, in addition to a token, the commuters will be able to buy a QR code-based paper ticket from the station counter. The DMRC has upgraded its AFC (automatic fare collection) gates, and token or customer care counters, to support the new feature, a senior official said on Monday. Initially, two AFC gates, one each for entry and exit, were upgraded at all stations for travel by QR-based paper tickets, the DMRC said. Services on Delhi Metro's Violet Line were affected for nearly two hours on Friday due to technical issues, causing inconvenience to commuters.
