Delhi-Mumbai expressway to be almost complete in December: Gadkari

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said five greenfield access control expressways are coming up and one of them between Delhi and Mumbai would be almost ready in December. He said the distance between the financial capital and the national capital would be covered in 12 hours once the expressway becomes operational. Scribe booked for cheating with claim to publish PM's Mann Ki Baat speeches

The editor of a local publication has been booked for allegedly duping people by claiming he would come out with a compilation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' radio programme speeches, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday. The accused sent out letters on social media and to some prominent personalities seeking funds for this purpose, and the 49-year-old complainant, believing it to be true, donated Rs 4,001, the official said. "The accused has no permission to come out with any such compilation, He was trying to cheat people by claiming the book, called Saar Granth, will be launched by the President in March. A case was registered after the victim submitted a written application to Unit XI of the Crime Branch," he said. Mumbai reports seven new measles cases, one suspected death in Kurla area

A four-year-old unimmunised girl from Kurla area in Mumbai died of suspected measles on Friday, while the city added seven new cases of the infection in the last 24 hours, a civic official said. The number of measles cases in the metropolis rose to 447, while the tally of suspected deaths increased to four, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. The number of deaths where the cause has been confirmed as measles stood unchanged at eight, he added. "The 4-year-old child was admitted in hospital on December 6 and died on Friday morning. The cause of death was refractory metabolic acidosis with acute gastroenteritis with measles with bronchopneumonia in a case of severe acute malnutrition," the BMC's bulletin informed. Mumbai logs 3,668 cybercrime cases till Sep; nearly 1,000 financial frauds

The Mumbai Police's cyber crime wing has registered 3,668 cases till September this year, of which 1,073 account for online or credit card fraud, an official said. Of the 3,668 cases, 214 were cracked with the arrest of 334 people, he said. "Currently Mumbai's population is more than two crore and cases related to cyber crime are increasing day by day. Therefore, 220 police personnel, including constables, are being trained to deal with such cases," the official said. Out of the total cases, 299 were related to obscene emails or MMS posts in which 94 people were arrested, he said. "For fake social media profiles or morphing e-mails, 108 cases were reported and 25 people were arrested. As many as 1,073 cases pertaining to credit card or online fraud were registered, in which 16 people were arrested. 'Mumbai civic body responsible for untoward incident due to open manholes'

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said while it appreciates the work being done by the city's civic body to cover open manholes, but until then if there is any untoward incident, then the corporation would be held responsible. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Abhay Ahuja said it was concerned over the issue of open manholes across the city and sought the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to come up with a permanent solution. The bench was hearing a bunch of petitions raising concerns over the increasing number of potholes across Maharashtra and also open manholes. BMC's counsel Anil Sakhare told the court on Wednesday that the civic body was addressing the issue of open manholes on a "war-footing basis" and work was on to close all such manholes. Mumbai on Saturday recorded 15 new measles cases, which took the infection tally here to 386, while the death toll remained unchanged at eight, a civic official said. A statement from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said its special 'outbreak response immunisation' drive saw 55 children between six to nine months of age and 3.064 children in the nine months to five years segment being given measles vaccines during the day. As many as 30 children were admitted to city hospital on Saturday, and the same number were discharged, it added. Maharashtra has so far recorded 807 measles cases and 18 deaths linked to the disease, most of them from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), according to the state health department's bulletin.

No curfew in Mumbai, section 144 imposed to ensure peace, says police

The Mumbai police on Saturday said the rumours about a curfew imposed in the city were false and appealed to people not to panic. The police have imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) from December 3 to 17 to prevent unlawful gatherings and rallies. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangre Patil clarified that this was not a curfew and the move is taken routinely to ensure peace in the city and avoid disruptions in public order. The rumours that a curfew has been imposed in the city are false and are creating misunderstanding among people, Nangre Patil said in a video message. ''I want to clarify that the order is imposed every 15 days to check on people taking out rallies without police permission and trying to disrupt law and order," the senior official said. WR to spend Rs 264 crore to build fences along Mumbai-Ahmedabad route

The Western Railway (WR) has said it would install fences along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route by May next year to stop animals from straying onto the tracks and getting run over by trains, a move coming in the backdrop of the prestigious Vande Bharat Express hitting cattle four times since its launch on September 30. 1,162 children jabbed against measles in Mumbai; city reports 23 new cases

Mumbai on Thursday recorded 23 new measles cases and zero fatality, the civic body said in a release. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation also inoculated 1,162 children against the viral infection on the first day of its Outbreak Response Immunisation drive. The Maharashtra health department has also formed a state-level task force headed by Dr Subhash Salunke to tackle rising measles cases, an official statement said. The tally of measles cases reported in Maharashtra between January 1, 2022 and November 30 stood at 754 and death toll stood at 18. All fatalities this year were from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (12 in Mumbai, three in Bhiwandi city, two in Thane city and one in Vasai-Virar city). Registration of properties in Mumbai municipal region rose 15 per cent this month to 8,756 units on higher demand despite an increase in interest rates, according to Knight Frank India. Mumbai takes 22nd spot in Prime Global Cities Index Q3 2022: Report

Mumbai stood at 22nd rank in a global index that measures annual price appreciation of premium residential properties, according to Knight Frank. In its report on 'Prime Global Cities Index Q3 (July-September) 2022', Property consultant Knight Frank said that all three Indian cities -- Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi -- registered an increase in average annual prices in the third quarter of 2022. The prime global cities index is a valuation-based index tracking the movement in prime residential prices in local currency across 45-plus cities worldwide. Mumbai moved up to 22nd rank in the third quarter of 2022 from 39th rank in the year-ago period. 717 measles cases reported in Maharashtra since Jan, Mumbai worst-affected

The tally of measles cases recorded in Maharashtra since the start of the year has reached 717 including 303 in Mumbai, the state health department said on Tuesday. The viral infection, which affects children the most, has claimed 14 lives so far. In Mumbai alone ten deaths due to measles have been reported as of November 28, the official release said. On Tuesday, Mumbai recorded five fresh measles cases and one suspected death, the city's civic body had said in a bulletin earlier in the day. Since January, 70 cases of infection have been reported in Malegaon city in Nashik district and 48 in Bhiwandi near Mumbai. Mumbai has recorded 74 outbreaks so far this year. If there are five suspected cases within a week of which more than two are confirmed by laboratory, then it is termed as an outbreak.
