L&T Mutual Fund ceases to exist as a mutual fund, capital markets regulator Sebi said on Monday. This comes after L&T Mutual Fund Trustee Ltd had informed Sebi that it wanted to surrender the registration granted to L&T Mutual Fund (L&T MF) by the markets regulator pursuant to the approval of change in control of L&T Investment Management Ltd and merger of schemes of L&T MF with HSBC Mutual Fund. Following this, Sebi has accepted the request for surrender of L&T MF's certificate of registration. "Consequently, L&T MF ceases to exist as a mutual fund with effect from April 6, 2023," the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a statement. Further, it said L&T MF will continue to be liable for all liabilities/ obligations, (including monetary penalties) for violations of the provisions of the Sebi Act and (Mutual Fund) regulations that have taken place before its surrender of certificate of registration.
Geojit Credits, a non-banking financial company (NBFC), on Monday announced the launch of Loan Against Mutual Fund (LAMF). Under the scheme, the investors can avail loans starting from Rs 10,000 in digital mode. A LAMF allows investors to raise instant funds at attractive interest rates for their short-term liquidity requirements by keeping their mutual fund investments as collateral. "Our newest product, digital Loan Against Mutual Fund will be of great help to investors who can avail loans at competitive rates and not redeem their MF investments, which is part of their long-term wealth creation and investment plan," Bejoy Anthraper, Business Head of Geojit Credits, said. Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) has said the industry is being vilified baselessly as the segment has the lowest customer complaints in the entire financial market space, as it follows the most transparent and disclosure-based reporting. The global funds tracking body Morningstar ranks India on top of 26 countries, when it comes to regular monthly fund disclosures, according to Amfi chief executive NS Venkatesh. Amfi gets complaints from investors as well as distributors directly and also through the regulator Sebi, he added. On the basis of the type and nature of complaints, these are broadly classified into routine and serious complaints, he said. Routine complaints include non-receipt of dividends, non-receipt of account statement, non-receipt of commission and non-updating of record.
