Haris Rauf fit for Champions Trophy opener against NZ on Wednesday: Report

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has recovered from his injury and will be available for his side's ICC Champions Trophy opening match against New Zealand on Wednesday, according to sources. A source close to the Pakistan team confirmed to PTI on Sunday that Haris, who sustained a muscular strain in his lower chest wall during the recent tri-sries tournament, has recovered and will play in the Champions Trophy opener in Karachi. Haris is okay now and the rest given to him after the first match of the Tri-Series has helped him recover well, the source said, adding that Pakistan have no fitness issues with any other player. Haris, one of Pakistan's key bowlers with his express pace and ability to take wickets in the middle overs, has remained with the squad despite the selectors calling up uncapped Akif Javed as a backup for him. Haris has a haul of 83 wickets in 46 one-day internationals and another 110 wickets in 79 T20 internationals as he has built a reputation as a specialist ...

ODI tri-series: Akif Javed named as replacement for Haris Rauf by Pakistan

The Pakistani selectors on Tuesday included uncapped left-arm pacer Akif Javed in the national team as a replacement for the unfit Haris Rauf for the remaining matches of the ongoing tri-series. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement that Javed is a replacement for for the tri-series match against South Africa on Wednesday. If Pakistan win that game, they will face New Zealand in the final on February 14. The PCB said that Haris has been advised rest after sustaining a sprain in the lower chest wall during Saturday's match against New Zealand. "The replacement is only for the tri-nation ODI series, as Haris Rauf is expected to be fully fit and available for selection for the ICC Champions Trophy," the PCB said in a release. Pacer Akif was recently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League and represents Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. But his first class and 50 overs matches exposure and performances are very limited.

Concerns over the form of pacers Shaheen, Naseem: Ex-Pak skipper Latif

Former captain Rashid Latif urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to overhaul the team's pace attack, looking beyond frontline pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, as he felt they were not contributing enough. Afridi and Shah are set to lead Pakistan's pace battery in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. When was the last time Afridi delivered a match-winning performance? Latif questioned. He said even Shah had not been able to deliver consistently despite having a long stint with the national team in different formats. Naseem has also not contributed significantly to Pakistan's success, the former wicketkeeper-batsman said in an interview during a channel. He said the defeat against New Zealand in the ongoing tri-series opener was an example of how in recent times the pacers had not delivered for Pakistan. I have concerns over the form of Shaheen, Naseem and others and I feel they have not performed as expected. He urged the PCB to take a fresh approach by finding new fast bow

Pakistan selectors confident about Rauf playing in Champions Trophy opener

The Pakistani selectors are confident that fast bowler Haris Rauf will be fit in time for the February 19 Champions Trophy opener against New Zealand even though he was ruled out of the three-nation ODI tournament on Tuesday. Haris, who sustained a muscle injury while bowling against New Zealand in the tri-series opener, is said to have been advised rest and skip the remaining matches of the three-nation event. "This has been done so that he has ample time to be ready for the Champions Trophy," an official close to the team said. He said that Haris was with the national side and was being well taken care of by the physio, strength and conditioning coach and team doctor. After Haris underwent a MRI and X-ray scans, the PCB released a statement confirming the injury. "The injury is not serious, and Haris Rauf is expected to make a full recovery in time for the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins in Karachi on February 19," the statement said. "However, as part of his rehabilitation

According to media reports, the federal cabinet okayed plans to have top security for the mega-event and gave approval to use military and rangers for this purpose. The government has already earmarked over 10,000 policemen including elite commando units to provide security at the grounds and team hotels in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi when the tournament begins on February 19 in Karachi.
