A coach of a local EMU train derailed in central Delhi on Sunday, officials said. A senior police officer said the electric multiple unit (EMU) train coach derailed near Bhairon Marg. "No injury has been reported. No public person was present at the spot. Railway staff members have arrived for repairs," the officer said.

Police arrested one person in connection with the blast at an illegal firecracker factory in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district in which at least eight people were killed and scores injured, an officer said on Monday. The arrested person is the partner of the owner of the illegal firecrackers factory, police said. The situation at Nilgunj's Moshpole within Duttapukur police station limits was calm on Monday. "Search operations continued the entire night. However, the lack of power in the area and huge amount of debris scattered here made it tough for us to conduct searches and our investigation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday urged the police leadership to provide timely justice to citizens and ensure a system that would guarantee the constitutional rights of the people. Addressing the concluding session of the National Security Strategies Conference here, Shah also asked police to work for a criminal justice system based on new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the use of forensic science among others. Pune police room gets call about suspected terrorist in Mumbai; probe on

The Pune police control room received a phone call, originating from the US, in the wee hours of Tuesday in which the person on the other side informed about presence of a "suspected terrorist" in Mumbai, said an official. The call was received at around 1 am and the Pune police immediately contacted their counterparts in Mumbai and informed about it. "The police control room received a call in which the caller informed us about a particular person in Mumbai, asked us to check on him, and claimed that person is a suspected terrorist. We immediately informed the Mumbai police about the call and they are looking into it," said the official. He said the call originated from the US. It appears the call was fishy as locations of both the caller and the person about whom he gave information were later traced to America, said another police officer.

Himachal Police gets Rs 7 cr to strengthen road safety to reduce accidents

The Himachal Pradesh government has released Rs 7.34 crore for the police to procure equipment and implement measures to reduce road accidents and deaths. Released by the transport department, the road safety fund will be utilised to procure traffic equipment and go a long way in meeting the target set by the United Nations to reduce accident deaths to 50 per cent by 2030, Director-General of Police Sanjay Kundu said on Saturday. The police will procure traffic lights for installation in Bijiri and Hamirpur and rescue equipment for the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway, he said. On an average, 1,180 people die each year in 3,090 accidents while 5,480 people suffer injuries, according to police records. Procurement of modern equipment for traffic regulation by the police is an ongoing process. Passenger on flight clicked photos of crew, DCW issues notices to police

A passenger on board a Delhi-Mumbai flight earlier this month was allegedly found to be clicking pictures of the cabin crew, private airline SpiceJet said on Friday, adding that he was subsequently asked to delete the photos. The passenger deleted the pictures and gave a written apology for the incident that happened on August 2, the airline said in a statement. A passenger seated in the first row of SpiceJet flight SG157 operating from Delhi to Mumbai on August 2 was found clicking pictures of the cabin crew, while she was seated on the jump seat at the time of take-off, a SpiceJet spokesperson said. The passenger was confronted by the crew members. He deleted the pictures from his phone and apologised for his action. The passenger also gave a written apology, the spokesperson added. In a joint operation, the police in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and neighbouring Chhattisgarh recovered explosives, Maoist literature and other material following an exchange of fire with Naxalites along the border of both states, an official said on Thursday. The incident occurred on Wednesday, Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Nilotpal said. "The Gadchiroli police had received intelligence inputs on August 15 night about the presence of a Naxalite camp of Sandra LOS (local organisation squad) and other such formations in north of Bhopalpatnam in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district along the border of the two states," he said. Arms, ammunition recovered in Manipur as situation continues to be tense

Eight firearms and 112 rounds of ammunition were recovered from different districts of violence-hit Manipur during search operations by security forces, police said. Besides, the forces also seized six explosives, they said. The recoveries were made on Wednesday from Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts, the police said in a statement. "The situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protesters," it said. Also, six bunkers have been dismantled in Tengnoupal district, it added. Meanwhile, four people from Assam were arrested in Mantripukhri area of Imphal East district with 1,240 bottles of syrups containing codeine phosphate, an opioid analgesic. The arrests were made by the officers of Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB) on Tuesday, police said. Ethnic clashes broke out in the state in May, and have been continuing for more than three months, leading to the deaths of over 160 people.

Nuh court sends Bajrangi to custody, associates will be nabbed soon: Police

Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi was remanded in police custody for a day by a Nuh court on Wednesday in connection with communal clashes that erupted in the district on July 31, and police said his associates will also be arrested soon. Bajrangi alias Raj Kumar was arrested on Tuesday from Faridabad after a fresh FIR was registered against him at Nuh's Sadar police station based on a complaint by Assistant Superintendent of Police Usha Kundu, they said. According to the FIR, Bajrangi, who was identified through social media posts, and some of his unidentified supporters had allegedly misbehaved with and threatened an ASP Kundu-led police team which had stopped them while they were carrying swords and trishuls to Nalhar temple. Bajrangi had been arrested by Faridabad police two days after the violence in connection with another case related to the communal clashes but was released on bail after he joined the investigation. Nuh incident: 'Mahapanchayat' by Hindu outfits to be held in Palwal

A 'mahapanchayat' by Hindu outfits will be held in Haryana's Pondri village on Sunday which will take a call on resuming VHP's Braj Mandal Yatra in Nuh that was disrupted on July 31 after communal violence broke out in the area, officials said. The 'Sarva Jatiye Mahapanchayat' was originally planned to be held in Nuh district's Kira village but permission was denied for it in view of the prevailing law and order situation. The Indore police said they have registered an FIR against "handlers" of the 'X' accounts of senior Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, MP Congress chief Kamal Nath and former Union minister Arun Yadav over a post accusing the Madhya Pradesh BJP government of corruption. In a statement released late Saturday night on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Indore police commissioner said local BJP's legal cell convener Nimesh Pathak complained that a fake letter bearing the name of a person called Gyanendra Awasthi was circulated on social media. Former law minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday alleged the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, which seeks to replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), allows the use of "draconian police powers for political ends". He also claimed the government's agenda behind bringing such laws is to "silence opponents". In an overhaul of criminal laws, the Centre on Friday introduced in Lok Sabha three bills to replace the IPC, Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act, proposing, among other things, repeal of the sedition law and introducing a new provision with a wider definition of the offence. Fire at sofa factory in Mayapuri industrial area, 7 hurt including 2 cops

Two policemen and seven civilians were injured putting out a fire that broke out at a factory in west Delhi's Mayapuri area early Wednesday morning, officials said. According to officials, a call was received at 2.05 am that there was a fire at a two-story sofa factory at the market known for dealing in scrap. The fire was doused by five tenders that were rushed to the spot, they said. The fire had sparked in the packing box of sofa springs. A drum of glue kept on the ground floor also burst in the blaze, a fire official said. Seven men received minor burn injuries and were rushed to DDU hospital.
