Two policemen and seven civilians were injured putting out a fire that broke out at a factory in west Delhi's Mayapuri area early Wednesday morning, officials said. According to officials, a call was received at 2.05 am that there was a fire at a two-story sofa factory at the market known for dealing in scrap. The fire was doused by five tenders that were rushed to the spot, they said. The fire had sparked in the packing box of sofa springs. A drum of glue kept on the ground floor also burst in the blaze, a fire official said. Seven men received minor burn injuries and were rushed to DDU hospital. The Haryana government has issued an order to transfer from Nuh a police officer in the rank of deputy superintendent. According to the order issued on Monday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Nuh) Jai Prakash has been transferred. He will take up a posting as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Police Headquarters) in Panchkula. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Siwani) in Bhiwani district Mukesh Kumar will take over from Prakash. A 'mahapanchayat' held here in Tigri village on Sunday demanded the release of youths arrested in connection with the killing of a Muslim cleric on August 1, giving a seven-day ultimatum to police. The panchayat also demanded the removal of the Anjuman mosque in Sector 57 since the area is Hindu-dominated. The Manipur Police said it has so far recovered 1,195 looted arms from different parts of the state. In a statement, it said 1,057 arms were recovered from the valley districts and 138 arms from the hill districts. Besides, thousands of ammunition were also recovered, mostly from the valley districts. "Security forces have been continuously raiding the hill and valley areas to recover the looted arms and ammunition," it said in a statement on Saturday evening. Director-General of Police Rajiv Singh said strict action will be taken against the people indulging in looting of arms from security forces. Haryana authorities on Saturday razed dozens of illegal structures on the third day of the demolition drive in violence-hit Nuh district, with officials saying some of them were owned by those allegedly involved in the recent clashes. The number of people arrested has gone up to 216, while 80 people have been taken into preventive detention and 104 FIRs registered so far in connection with the communal violence that erupted when a religious procession was attacked in Nuh district by mobs on July 31, according to Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij. Three persons including a father-son duo were killed by militants in Manipur's Bishnupur district late night on Friday, police said. The three were gunned down while they were sleeping and later slashed with swords at Kwakta in the district, police said on Saturday morning, adding that the assailants came from Churachandpur. "The three used to stay in a relief camp but had returned to their residences at Kwakta on Friday after the situation had improved, police said. Soon after the incident, an irate mob gathered at Kwakta and wanted to head towards Churachandpur but was stopped by security personnel, police said. Police have registered a case against a cadet of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) after a viral video showed him mercilessly thrashing some junior cadets during a physical training session at a college in Maharashtra's Thane city, an official said on Saturday. Private agencies providing domestic helps to households in the national capital will have to mandatorily undergo police verification to get licence from the Labour department, officials said on Saturday. These agencies have to register themselves on the e-district portal under the Delhi Private Placement Agency (Regulation) Order 2014, according to a notice issued by the office of the Labour Commissioner. The registration is without any fee and the process can be completed online. The move will not only regulate the largely unregulated placement services sector in Delhi but also do a lot of good by protecting poor men and women from other states who work in the city homes as domestic helps and do other menial jobs, officials said. According to an estimate, there are more than 20,000 placement agencies and at least five lakh domestic workers in the national capital, a majority of them coming from other states, they said. A shooting in a Seattle parking lot on Friday night wounded five people, including two who were in critical condition, the city's police chief said. The Seattle Police Department responded to a reported shooting around 9 pm in the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue South. Canadian authorities on Friday said they found a body this month in the St Lawrence River which belonged to a man connected to an investigation into the drowning of eight migrants, including members of an Indian family, in March when they were trying to enter the US from Canada illegally. The body has been identified as Casey Oakes, who disappeared in March after he was last seen operating a boat later found near the bodies of two migrant families. One of the families was from Romania and the other was from India. The Indian victims have been identified by their kin in India as Pravin Chaudhary (50), Dakshaben Chaudhary (45), their daughter Vidhi (23), and son Met (20). Oakes was 30 when he disappeared on March 29. His body was found in the river on July 3 near Ross Island, but it took some time for the identity to be confirmed. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday asserted in the state legislature that police personnel will not be appointed on a contractual basis and said Mumbai faces a shortage of around 10,000 cops. In a statement made in the legislative council, Fadnavis, who is also the home minister, said the Mumbai police have sought 3,000 personnel from the Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC), an undertaking of the state police, to tide over paucity of manpower. He said there is a shortage of around 10,000 personnel in the Mumbai police force and the country's financial capital cannot be safeguarded adequately with this shortfall.
