Sukhbir fielded from Ferozepur, wife Harsimrat from Bathinda

The Shiromani Akali Dal Tuesday announced its decision to field party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal from the Ferozepur seat while his wife and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has been again nominated from the Bathinda seat. The announcement was made by party patron and Akali stalwart Parkash Singh Badal. "It has been decided that SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal will contest from the Ferozepur seat and Harsimrat will contest from the Bathinda seat," Badal said. The SAD has already announced its candidates from eight seats.As per arrangement with its ally BJP, the Akali Dal contests on 10 seats while saffron party fields candidates from three out of 13 seats. Sukhbir Badal, who is party chief, will be facing Akali rebel and Congress nominee Sher Singh Ghubaya from Ferozepur seat. Sukhbir is currently MLA from Jalalabad seat. Will quit party if denied ticket, says BJP MP Udit Raj

BJP MP Udit Raj Tuesday morning said he will resign from the party if denied ticket in the Lok Sabha elections and may contest independently from the North West Delhi parliamentary seat. Raj, who is sitting MP from North West Delhi, said he will wait for some time for a reply from the party and then file his nomination as an Independent candidate from the seat at 10 am. LS polls: CM Sawant among first to cast vote in Goa

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was among the early ones to cast his vote for the Lok Sabha elections in the state's North Goa constituency, where Union minister Shripad Naik is the BJP's candidate. He arrived around 8 am at a polling booth located in his Sankhalim Assembly segment along with his wife Sulakshana Sawant, who is head of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Goa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday cast his vote in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections at a booth here and appealed to people to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. Polling beings on dull note in Anantnag

Voting began Tuesday on a dull note in Anantnag district of Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency, where polling will be held in three legs, amidst tight security measures, officials said. Residents in most parts of the district in restive south Kashmir have stayed indoors so far, an official said. While polling is underway in Anantnag district, voting in Kulgam district will be held on April 29 while Pulwama and Shopian districts will go to polls on May 6. The Election Commission has curtailed the polling duration for Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency by two hours following a request from the state police to this effect. The voting will be held in south Kashmir areas from 7 am to 4 pm. The Anantnag district has 5,29,256 electors including 2,69,603 males, 2,57,540 females, 2,102 service electors and 11 transgender voters.
