Gun control reform is a key issue for the four-term lawmaker, whose district is in the San Francisco Bay Area. "I've talked to kids who sit in their classroom afraid that they'll be the next victim of gun violence," he told Colbert. "I see Washington do nothing about it after the moments of silence. "You want to use terrorist groups as tools against the nations of the region... you are the leader of world terrorism. "Who is propagating and encouraging terrorism in today's world? Upset over Mayawati's remarks, Bhim Army to support Cong's Saharanpur candidate

In a move which can upset the BSP-SP-RLD alliance in the state, Dalit group Bhim Army, which has a considerable following in western Uttar Pradesh, has appealed to members of the community to vote for Congress' Saharanpur Lok Sabha candidate Imran Masood. The move comes days after Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati described Bhim Army founder Chandrashekhar Azad as a "BJP agent" and accused him of trying to divide Dalit votes. The call to support Masood, who had hogged headlines during the 2014 general elections for his controversial remarks against Narendra Modi, was taken late Monday night. The BSP-SP-RLD alliance has fielded Faizul Rehman from the seat. Sitting BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal is seeking re-election from the constituency. At a joint rally in Deoband in the constituency on Sunday, Mayawati had appealed to Muslim voters to consolidate behind Rehman and ensure that their votes do not get split. Scared of debating me on corruption: Rahul asks Modi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday if he was "scared" of debating with him on corruption and suggested that they could go "open book" for it. Gandhi has been repeatedly daring Modi to debate with him on issues of national security, especially the Rafale fighter jets deal, asserting that when it happens, the truth will be out in the open. The BJP has scoffed at the idea and described the Congress chief as an ignorant politician. "Dear PM, Scared of debating me on corruption? I can make it easier for you. Let's go open book, so you can prepare: 1. RAFALE+Anil Ambani, 2. Nirav Modi, 3. Amit Shah+Demonetisation," Gandhi tweeted with #Scared2Debate. After releasing the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls earlier this month, Gandhi had challenged the prime minister to debate with him on the issues of national security, corruption and foreign policy. The Congress has also accused Modi of helping industrialist Anil Ambani make a profit of Rs ..

Saudi hails US terror blacklisting of Iran Guards

Riyadh welcomed Tuesday Washington's blacklisting of arch-rival Tehran's elite Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organisation, state media reported. "The US decision (follows) the kingdom's repeated demands to the international community to address the issue of Iranian-backed terrorism," the official Saudi Press Agency quoted a foreign ministry source as saying. The source welcomed the US move as a "practical and serious step" in curbing what the kingdom describes as Iranian meddling in the region. Washington's decision on Monday marks the first time that the US has branded an arm of a foreign government a terrorist group. It effectively means that anyone who deals with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps could face prison in the United States. President Donald Trump called the corps -- which has some 125,000 troops and vast interests across the Iranian economy -- Tehran's "primary means of directing and implementing its global terrorist campaign." Tehran swiftly retaliated by ...
