Army holds mini marathon to boost civil-military relation in J&K's Poonch

Hundreds of people on Sunday took part in a mini marathon organised by Army's Bhimber Gali brigade in Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, an official said. The first ever mini-marathon in the border subdivision ahead of the mega Mendhar sports festival was undertaken under operation 'Sadbhavana' (goodwill) to foster unity and social cohesion besides strengthening civil-military relation, he said. The army official said the event witnessed an overwhelming participation of local populace and drew 400 participants from school and colleges of the Mendhar region, demonstrating their zeal and enthusiasm. He said the Marathon featured two competitive age categories -- 15 to 30 years and 31 to 45 years. The cordon and search operation (CASO) to track down terrorists responsible for attacking an IAF convoy, which claimed the life of a corporal rank personnel, entered the fifth day on Wednesday, officials said. Northern Army Commander visits J&K's Poonch, briefed on security strategy

Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday visited troops in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and was briefed about a new methodology being adopted to strengthen the area's security. The Army Commander emphasised executing operations with utmost professionalism. "Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Army Commander Northern Command visited a battalion deployed in the hinterland in Poonch sector for operational review," the Northern Command said in a post on X. It said a comprehensive briefing was carried out by ground commanders on the prevailing security situation, including a new methodology being adopted to strengthen the security of the area. The commander also reviewed the need-based projects initiated by the Army for the development of the local community.

Suspected terrorists fire upon Army vehicles in J&K; no one injured

Suspected terrorists fired upon a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening, prompting security forces to launch a search operation, officials said. No security personnel was injured in the attack, they said. "At around 1800h today, a Security Forces convoy of vehicles was fired upon by suspected terrorists from a jungle near Krishna Ghati, Poonch sector. No casualties to own troops. Joint search operations by Indian Army and JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) are in progress," the White Night Corps of the Army posted on X. The vehicles that came under attack were carrying security personnel back to the camp, the officials said. The incident came after a high-level security meeting chaired by Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi to chart out an anti-terror operation plan for the new year to foil design of terrorists in the region.

Army orders investigation into deaths of three civilians in J-K's Poonch

The Army has ordered a thorough internal investigation into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir following allegations that they died in its custody, people familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
