'Dream come true' for Alexander-Arnold as he is introduced by Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold was officially introduced by Real Madrid on Thursday, saying he was fulfilling his dream to play for the Spanish powerhouse. The 26-year-old England back was the latest reinforcement on defense for Madrid after a season in which the back line struggled following injuries. Madrid moved forward with signing Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool for a reported fee of up to 10 million euros ($11.5 million) to get him on June 1 instead of for free at the end of the month. That allowed Madrid to count on the defender to play for Xabi Alonso's team at the Club World Cup in the United States. Madrid opens its Club World Cup group-stage campaign against Saudi club Al-Hilal next Wednesday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Alexander-Arnold was accompanied by his parents and relatives in the capital. After signing the contract alongside Real Madrid president Florentino Prez, he was introduced with a video of his highlights and then spoke briefly, in Spanish. Thank you

Real Madrid confirms signing of Alexander-Arnold ahead of Club World Cup

Real Madrid confirmed the signing of defender Trent Alexander-Arnold on Friday in time for the Club World Cup after paying a reported fee of 10 million euros ($11 million) to Liverpool. The 26-year-old England right back has agreed to a six-year deal through June 2031, the Spanish club said. Madrid said Alexander-Arnold will play for Xabi Alonso's team at the Club World Cup to be held in the United States starting in mid-June. Alexander-Arnold had been criticized by some Liverpool fans for having let his contract run down meaning he could leave as a free agent. But since Alexander-Arnold was still under contract with the Premier League champions until the end of June, Liverpool was able to extract a fee for letting him go early. Madrid and the other 31 teams playing in the Club World Cup can make early signings under FIFA-approved special trading windows from June 1-10 and again June 27-July 3. Liverpool confirmed it will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concl

Ancelotti focused on finishing season with Real Madrid before Brazil job

Carlo Ancelotti wants to remain fully focused on his job with Real Madrid before taking over Brazil's national team in two weeks. Brazil announced Ancelotti as its new coach on Monday, but the 65-year-old Italian had not commented on the move until he was asked about it at a news conference Tuesday ahead of Real Madrid's next Spanish league match against Mallorca on Wednesday. I have great respect for this club and these fans and I'm totally focused on finishing the last part of this spectacular adventure, Ancelotti said. Beginning on May 26 I will start coaching Brazil, which will be a great challenge personally, but until then I will continue training Real Madrid and I want to finish the best possible way. Former Madrid player Xabi Alonso is widely expected to take over the coaching job after confirming he is leaving Bayer Leverkusen, but the Spanish club has yet to announce Ancelotti's successor. I like Alonso a lot, Ancelotti said when asked about the former midfielder. I don't

Mbappe scores twice and Madrid wins again to trail Barca by 4 points

Real Madrid survived a late scare but kept pace with leader Barcelona again on Sunday, ahead of their Spanish league "clasico" next weekend. Kylian Mbapp scored in each half as Madrid held on to beat Celta Vigo 3-2 and remain four points behind the Catalan rival going into next Sunday's match in Barcelona. "La Liga is in Barcelona's hands, but we'll have more chances if we're able to win," Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "It's a great opportunity. We're going to prepare well for Sunday's game, which I'm not saying will be decisive, but almost." Arda Gler also scored for Madrid, which opened a 3-0 lead early in the second half but saw Celta get back into the game toward the end of the match at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Celta had a couple of great chances to complete its comeback, including a shot by Pablo Durn that stopped just short of the goal line after a deflection by Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the 78th minute. Courtois had to make a couple of saves near the

Real Madrid defender Rudiger to miss the rest of the season after surgery

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rdiger underwent knee surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss the rest of the season. Madrid said Rdiger successfully underwent surgery on a meniscus tear in his left knee and will begin his recovery process shortly. The club did not give a timeline for his return. Rdiger had to be replaced in extra time of Madrid 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday. He made headlines for shouting at the referee from the bench and for apparently throwing a small bag of ice onto the field. Rdiger apologized for his behavior but the incident prompted former Germany player Dietmar Hamann to call for the defender to be left out of Germany's squad for the Nations League final four in June. German national team sporting director Rudi Vller also criticized Rdiger, saying he needed to show class and respect for others. Germany plays Portugal in the Nations League semifinals in Munich on June 4.

Real Madrid's Rudiger scolded over ice incident in Copa del Rey final

Antonio Rdiger needs to show class and respect for others, German national team sporting director Rudi Vller has said, after the defender appeared to throw ice toward the referee during Real Madrid's Copa del Rey loss to Barcelona. Rdiger shouted at the referee and seemed to throw a small bag of ice during extra time in Madrid's 3-2 loss to Barcelona on Saturday. Rdiger has since apologized for his behavior but the incident prompted former Germany player Dietmar Hamann to call Sunday for the defender to be left out of Germany's squad for the Nations League final four in June. You can't do that. And especially not as a player for the German national team. He needs to change that and he knows that himself, his public reaction shows that, Vller told the dpa news agency in comments published Monday. Toni is a classy player, but as a player for the German national team he also needs to display class in his behavior. He rightly demands respect for himself (and) he needs to show this same
