Tata Power Company Ltd on Thursday said it plans to set up a 10-GW ingots and wafers manufacturing facility in Odisha at an investment of Rs 10,000 crore. Ingots and wafers are key raw materials used in the production of solar cells and modules, as well as semiconductor chips, it said in a release. The company, which currently has 4.55 GW of cell and module manufacturing capacity, aims to backward integrate ingots and wafers into its solar cell and panel production for both domestic use and export markets, it said. "Tata Power is evaluating two possible locations like Gopalpur in Ganjam district and Cuttack for its ingots and wafers facility. Both locations offer proximity to the port," the release said.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has bagged a 30 MW/120 MWh battery energy storage project from state-owned NHPC. The project has been secured under NHPC's BESS Tranche-I tender through a competitive bidding route for Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd -- the end-user of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) asset, TPREL said in a statement on Friday. The project involves setting up a 30 MW / 120 MWh battery storage system at the 220 kV substation in Kerala. This means 30 MW of storage can provide back up of up to four hours. This is its first Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA), TPREL said. It will operate under a 12-year BESPA. The project is slated for commissioning within 15 months, positioning storage as a key enabler of round-the-clock renewable power and grid resilience. Tata Power on Tuesday said it has logged 31 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,189 crore, compared to the year-ago period, on back of operational efficiency. "At Rs 1,189 crore, growing 31 per cent YoY (year-on-year), the company reported its highest ever and 19th consecutive quarter of PAT growth on the back of strong operational performance and execution excellence across all its businesses of generation, transmission & distribution, and renewables," Tata Power said in a statement. According to the statement, the project holds a significant order value of about Rs 418 crore. The NTPC is developing 3x245 MW (735 MW) Nokh Solar Park at Pokhran, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. NHDC is a joint venture of state-owned hydro power giant NHPC and the Madhya Pradesh government, a statement by Tata Power Company Ltd said on Wednesday. NHDC had invited bids early this year for this project to be set up at the Omkareshwar reservoir in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The LoA was awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding.
