Messaging giant WhatsApp Tuesday said it is focussed on deepening engagement with startups in India to help them leverage technology platforms and scale operations to solve various issues. The Facebook-owned company also announced the winners of its 'Startup India-WhatsApp Grand Challenge', awarding a total of USD 2,50,000 to five startups. Airtel starts 4G services in Lakshadweep
Bharti Airtel Tuesday announced the launch of 4G services in the Lakshadweep Islands, becoming the first mobile operator to launch high speed data services on the tropical archipelago. "We are truly proud to become the first operator to launch 4G services in Lakshadweep and put the last remaining remote territory on the digital superhighway. Airtel 4G now reaches the farthest corners of India," Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel said in a statement. Google not relaunching services in China: Pichai
Google, which quit China in 2010 in protest over Beijing's strict censorship policies, is not relaunching its services in the country without the "right conditions," CEO Sundar Pichai has said. Google faced outrage last year when it was reported that the company may have been looking to get back into the search engine business in China, the world's second largest economy. In an interview to CNN, the 46-year-old Indian-origin CEO of Google said the company was not actively working on a new Chinese search engine, though he acknowledged that Google was ignoring China and its hundreds of millions of internet users. US city to deploy 'RoboCop' to monitor public area
A Californian city is set to introduce a 'RoboCop' or a robot police, the latest tool in the force's arsenal that will keep an electronic eye on public areas, according to a US media report. The device, dubbed "HP RoboCop", will be deployed in Huntington Park, a 50,000-resident city located 10 km south of Los Angeles. It is "an autonomous data machine that is meant to serve outdoors", KTLA channel reported. It will use 360-degree HD video footage to "act as an extra set of eyes and monitor areas such as parks, city buildings and corridors where police might not have the time to consistently patrol", it said. Facebook unveils global cryptocurrency
Facebook announced Tuesday it is launching its own cryptocurrency called "Libra," in a move aimed at creating a low-cost global payment system available through smart devices. Libra, described as "a new global currency" and set to roll out next year, is being backed by about 25 partners, including nonprofits and firms in financial services and online commerce. Police on Monday defused a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) found near a school in Kalamboli here.Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said, "The object resembling a bomb was spotted on a handcart.
