Vintage vehicle enthusiasts in Uttar Pradesh can now register their prized cars and bikes in the "vintage" category, with the state transport department starting the facility in line with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' (MoRTH) 2021 notification. QR code property checks, faster land titles in UP's Vision 2047 plan

Uttar Pradesh will introduce QR code-based verification of property ownership, integrate land registry data with revenue department records for instant title updates, and simplify rent agreements with minimal stamp duty, Minister Ravindra Jaiswal has said. In an interview with PTI, MoS (Independent Charge) for Stamp and Court Fee, Registration, said the reforms are part of the state's ambitious Vision 2047 plan, with some of the initiatives expected to roll out by March 2026. Currently, it takes 35-40 days after registration for the buyer's name to reflect in revenue records. Soon, revenue officials will be posted at registration offices to verify records before a transaction is finalised. The buyer's name will be updated immediately after registration, giving them instant ownership rights, he said. Jaiswal, a BJP MLA from Varanasi, said another major initiative aims to encourage property owners to formalise tenancy agreements by reducing high stamp duty charges. "Many landlords ..

SC orders status quo till Aug 25 in Sambhal mosque row, issues notice

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered status quo till August 25 in the Sambhal mosque row and issued notice to the Hindu petitioners. A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and A S Chandurkar passed the orders. The top court was hearing an appeal filed by Masjid committee challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court which dismissed its plea against the survey ordered by a Sambhal court in the Shahi Jama Masjid and Harihar Temple dispute, upholding the civil court's direction for the survey. The high court said the order to appoint a court commissioner and the suit were maintainable. The mosque committee had moved the high court against the November 19 last year order of the civil judge directing the Mughal-era mosque' survey which took place the same day. A second survey carried out on November 24 last year, the committee claimed, was illegal as the civil court never ordered it.

UP not mafia-free, smaller mafias have merged into a mega-mafia: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the BJP-led state government of corruption, citing the recent arrest of a Kanpur lawyer for running an extortion racket. In an X post in Hindi, Yadav said there is a "triangle of BJP corruption" in Uttar Pradesh -- "the corrupt BJP government involved in fake encounters, corrupt officials amassing black money and shielded by the BJP, and a corrupt lawyer covering up their misdeeds." Targeting the Yogi Adityanath government's anti-mafia campaign, Yadav wrote, "The corrupt individuals who earned crores of rupees were never spotted by drones or binoculars, the matter came to light only when their own extortion racket was exposed. Let's see whether the bulldozers move on their own against encroachments by this BJP-backed land mafia after my post, or some bigger extortionist will hush up the matter by collecting money from everyone." He further said, "Where are those who claimed that Uttar Pradesh has become mafia-free? The truth
