3 killed as trolley carrying devotees plunges into canal in UP's Kushinagar

Three women were killed and around 18 others were injured after a tractor trolley carrying devotees overturned and plunged into the Gandak canal in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, police said on Thursday. The incident occurred near the Siswa regulator under the Khadda police station limits at around 8 pm on Wednesday, when the trolley, which was transporting nearly 25 devotees, overturned. According to police, the devotees were travelling from Mamkhor Barhara village in Maharajganj district's Ghughli area to attend the Chaitra Ram Navami Varni fair at Bhaisaha Ghat when the accident occurred. Preliminary findings indicate that the accident happened when the hook connecting the trolley to the tractor broke, causing it to overturn and fall into the canal, officials said. 6 arrested following raids at 1,483 sites in Uttar Pradesh amid LPG crisis

Amid the LPG crisis, Uttar Pradesh's Food and Civil Supplies Department conducted raids at 1,483 locations here and arrested six people in an operation to check black marketing of cooking gas cylinders, according to an official statement. The raids were conducted on Friday, along with the district administration. As part of the operation, 24 FIRs were registered, said the statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government late on Friday night. UP to make registration mandatory for Ola, Uber, other ride-hailing apps

In view of the safety and convenience of passengers, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to make the state registration mandatory for app-based ride-hailing service providers like Ola and Uber. A decision in this regard was taken by the state Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, state transport minister Dayashankar Singh said that Uttar Pradesh will adopt the rules under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, that were amended on July 1, 2025. Earlier, there was no regulatory control over Ola and Uber, but now they will also be required to register. They will have to submit applications and pay licence and renewal fees, he said. Until now, authorities could not verify who was driving the vehicles, but now, drivers will have to undergo medical examinations, police verification and fitness checks, the minister said. According to a BJP leader close to Maurya, the deputy chief minister was going to Kaushambi to attend multiple events. "Smoke was noticed all inside the chopper soon after take off, forcing the pilots to opt for an emergency landing at the Lucknow airport," the BJP leader said.
