It spread rapidly and five passengers -- two women, two children and a man -- were unable to get out in time and died. Several other passengers sustained injuries and have been taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. According to eyewitnesses, the flames were visible from almost a kilometre away. Industrial boilers behind 7% of India's greenhouse gas emissions: Report

Boilers in India's factories release 182 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, which is about 7 per cent of the country's total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and over a quarter of all emissions from industries, according to a new report published on Wednesday. The report also said these boilers emit more particulate matter (PM) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) than the entire automobile sector in India, primarily due to weak emission standards. Industries such as food processing, chemicals and textiles depend on steam produced by process boilers to operate. The findings were released at the 'National Conclave on Greening Industrial Boilers in India', organised by the environment think tank iFOREST, in partnership with the Central government's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the labour department of the Uttar Pradesh government. To reduce pollution and help India meet its net zero targets, iFOREST has suggested launching a "Green Boiler Mission"

BJP govt dismantled contract cheating network in UP, says CM Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday accused previous state governments of neglecting the education sector, and said before 2017, the state's secondary education board was facing an "existential crisis", while basic education had nearly collapsed. Secondary education in the state was earlier known for mass cheating, he noted, adding his government dismantled the "contract cheating" system completely. Speaking at an event to distribute appointment letters to 494 selected assistant teachers (LT grade) and 49 lecturers for government secondary schools, he said, "Prior to 2017, secondary education in the state was notorious for mass cheating...Schools appeared to be on the verge of closure." "There was a time when the very existence of the Secondary Education Board was in question. Education was never part of the government's agenda. Without a strong foundation, how can one imagine building a strong structure? The willpower was lacking. Education was not in the agend
