A tractor-trolley fell into a drain near Redhibodki village in the Saharanpur district, leaving nine people dead, four of them children, police on Thursday said. The incident took place Wednesday evening in the Tajpura area when a tractor carrying around 50 devotees was on its way to Randaul village for a religious event, Superintendent of Police, City, Abhimanyu Manglik told PTI. On Wednesday, police recovered four bodies from the drain. The victims were identified as Sulochana, 58, Manglesh, 50, and Aditi and Arjun, both aged five and 12. Five bodies recovered on Thursday are yet to be identified, Manglik said. Several people were washed away due to a strong current in the river. Party workers overpowered the alleged assailant and thrashed him. With a view to curb frivolous complaints against entrepreneurs, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to conduct a preliminary investigation before filing an FIR in case of a complaint against traders. The order that came on Saturday aims to reduce the number of "baseless" FIRs filed against businessmen and traders in the state, which frequently result in harassment and undue pressure, the state government spokesperson said. Now an FIR cannot be lodged directly by any person against entrepreneurs. The order was issued considering the direction given by the Supreme Court in a case, the spokesperson said. Singh had contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly poll from Prayagraj on a Samajwadi Party ticket. An FIR against Agarwal has been lodged at the Shivkuti police station on a complaint by Richa Singh who alleged being targeted by him on social media platform X, called Twitter till recently, police officials said. According to the FIR, Agarwal, who manages the official X account of the Samajwadi Party, used extremely indecent and derogatory language in response to a tweet by Singh on August 17. It is alleged in the FIR that Agarwal was openly threatening to humiliate and malign her through social media and other means. The Allahabad High Court has granted four weeks to the state government and the Lucknow Development Authority to file their counter-affidavits on a plea over the alleged delay in completing the construction of Jai Prakash Narayan International Centre in Gomti Nagar. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court directed the matter to be listed after four weeks. A bench of chief justice Printikar Diwakar and justice Rajan Roy passed the order on Friday on the PIL filed by Sanjay Sharma. The petitioner has alleged that the construction of the center was started in 2015 but the work did not progress after a change in government, causing an escalation of cost.
