Nisar Ahmed Tantray, whose brother Noor Trali is believed to have helped revive the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit in Jammu and Kashmir, has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after being deported from the United Arab Emirates in connection with an attack on a CRPF camp in South Kashmir in 2017, officials said here. Nisar had shifted to the UAE recently and was believed to have been in constant touch with Mudasir Ahmed Khan, one of the main handlers of the February 14 attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, in which 40 personnel were killed. Tantray was produced before a special court which remanded him in NIA custody. He was arrested in connection with the attack on the CRPF camp at Lethpora in South Kashmir on December 30 night in 2017, in which five personnel were killed. A bomb blast outside a restaurant on Wednesday wounded at least 13 people, including children, in the insurgency-plagued southern Philippines, authorities said. The explosion shattered a window at the front of the eatery, striking family members gathered for an event in the town of Isulan on Mindanao island, Mayor Marites Pallasigue told AFP. BJP chief Amit Shah Wednesday lambasted the Congress over its stand on the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, saying nobody can dilute the AFSPA as the BJP will be standing like a rock in support of security forces. Jawans of paramilitary forces like the CRPF and the BSF are likely to get tax exemption on ration money allowance and risk and hardship allowance, officials said on Wednesday. The move, when implemented, is expected to benefit about nine lakh personnel of paramilitary forces -- CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. The finance ministry has given an assurance to the home ministry that it would consider the demand to exempt ration money allowance and risk and hardship allowance granted to paramilitary personnel from the purview of income tax, a home ministry official said. In a recent letter to the home ministry, the finance ministry conveyed that the long-standing demand of forces would be examined during the ensuring budgetary exercise. This was in response to a communication from the home ministry which raised the issue of tax exemption on ration money allowance given to paramilitary personnel on the basis of parity with other uniformed forces and Pay Commission recommendations. A Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, the prime suspect in the looting of weapons from the residence of a Jammu and Kashmir legislator last year, has been arrested from a hospital here, police said Wednesday. Danish Haneef was taken into custody from a private hospital in Rajbagh area of the city where he was undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during a gunbattle in Pulwama district few days ago, a police official said. "The Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, believed to be the kingpin in looting of weapons in December 2018, has been arrested," the official said. He said the militant was being questioned. A suspended student of the Banaras Hindu University was shot at by unidentified assailants outside a hostel in the campus and later died in a hospital, police said Wednesday.
