Taiwan's weather authorities warned residents of heavy rain and strong winds starting Wednesday as Typhoon Saola skirts by the island's southern coast on its way to China's southern coast. The typhoon is moving northwest with sustained winds of 162 kph (101 mph) and gusts of up to 198 kph (123 mph), according to Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau. The typhoon's eye won't hit Taiwan's mainland, but is expected to graze the island's southern cities with its outer bands. The weather bureau also warned late Monday night that high waves and swells are expected to make any boat journeys dangerous. Heavy rain is expected in Taiwan's eastern and southern areas Wednesday going into Thursday. Taiwan's weather bureau has so far categorized the storm as a mid-strength typhoon, and said there's a slight chance the storm could strengthen. Cloudy day predicted in Delhi, minimum temperature 26.3 degree celsius

The national capital on Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of 26.3 degree Celsius, normal for the season, according to the India Meteorological Department. The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 36 degree Celsius. The humidity was recorded at 70 per cent at 8.30 am, it said. According to Central Pollution Control Board data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood in the 'moderate' category with a reading of 141 at 10 am. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Govt launches 'FloodWatch' app for real-time flood updates, forecasts

Amid a rise in flood-related incidents in the country, including loss of life and property, the government Thursday launched an app to disseminate real-time information on the flood situation in affected areas. The 'FloodWatch' app, will collect data from 338 stations to send real-time flood updates across 23 states and Union Territories, Central Water Commission (CWC) Chairperson Kushvinder Vohra said. The app aims to use mobile phones to spread flood-related information and even provides forecasts for up to 7 days, Vohra said while launching 'FloodWatch'. The app uses advanced technologies such as satellite data analysis, mathematical modelling, and real-time monitoring to deliver accurate and timely flood forecasts, he added. "The app's user-friendly interface will make it easy for anyone to stay informed and minimise risk during flood events," Vohra said.
