Heavy rains lash Goa

Heavy rains Wednesday lashed Goa, throwing the normal life out of gear at many places. A senior India Meteorological Department (IMD) officer said heavy rains will continue for the next three days with the south-west monsoon setting in completely over the coastal state. In Panaji, the continuous downpour since the morning led to a huge traffic jam on the Panaji-Margao highway due to accumulation of water. Heavy rains are also witnessed in south Goa and north Goa districts. The arrival of south-west monsoon got delayed by nearly a fortnight in Goa this year. With today's showers, the sluggish monsoon seems to be gathering strength. "We have taken adequate pre-monsoon measures but there are some spots where one cannot stop flooding. We have adopted long-term measures to tackle such situations," Uday Madkaikar, Mayor, Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP), told PTI. Light showers in Mumbai suburbs

Mumbaikars' wait for widespread rains seems to be getting longer with only light showers being witnessed Wednesday morning in areas like Andheri and Santacruz, a day after onset of the south-west monsoon was announced in Maharashtra, an IMD official said. As per Met department, the monsoon will gain strength with a forecast of widespread rainfall in Goa and Konkan including Mumbai for four days till June 29. Earlier in the morning, areas such as Andheri and Santacruz received some precipitation. "We are observing the cloud pattern so that we can predict the possible downpour. The forecast for the next four days, till June 29 is of widespread rainfall in Goa and Konkan including Mumbai," the official said. The Madhya Maharashtra region would receive some showers while other areas may have some dry days ahead, he said. Delhi, Mumbai to receive light rains today: IMD

Delhi and Mumbai are likely to receive light rains on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department predicted.The minimum and maximum temperatures in the national capital will hover around 28 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius while in the financial capital it will be 25 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is very likely at isolated places in Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha, according to the weather forecast.The IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Konkan and Goa, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya.Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in coastal Karnataka, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, it said.Rough sea conditions are likely to prevail in south-western and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea. The weather office has advised fishermen not to venture into these areas.

Dry conditions in Delhi, slim chance of rain

The mercury is likely to rise slightly in the national capital on Wednesday owing to dry conditions, the weatherman said. At 8:30 am, the city recorded a minimum of 29.6 degrees Celsius and humidity levels at 66 per cent, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. The weather office has predicted a partly cloudy sky and "thundery development during the day but there's a slim chance of rainfall". The maximum temperature is likely to touch the 40-degree Celsius mark. On Tuesday, the weatherman had said rains are likely to elude Delhi for the next three to four days. Monsoon may take a week longer to reach the national capital. Normally, the wind system reaches the city by June 29.

Monsoon advances, Rajasthan gets heavy rainfall

Monsoon further advanced into central and western India Tuesday with several places in Rajasthan receiving heavy rainfall, but dry weather prevailed in most parts of eastern and northern states. Maximum temperatures were above the normal at many areas in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh were some of the hottest places in the country. In Delhi, dry conditions pushed the mercury up and rains will continue to elude the national capital for the next three to four days, the weatherman said. Rains bring temperature down in Himachal Pradesh

Rain brought relief to the residents of Himachal Pradesh from the scorching heat as the maximum temperatures fell by two to three notches on Tuesday, the MeT Department said. Sundernagar has received 61.6 mm of rainfall since Monday evening, followed by Shimla 43.8 mm, Solan 42.1 mm, Manali 37, Bilaspur 34.5, Kufri 32, Bharwain 18, Kharapathar 17, Kalpa 14.8, Bhuntar 13.8, Una 12.2, Sangla 8, Mandi 5.1, Keylong, Jhanjali and Chamba 5 mm each, Dalhousie and Amb 4 mm each, Palampur 3.4 and Pooh 1 mm of rainfall, it said. Una continued to be the hottest place in the state with a high of 39 degrees Celsius, whereas the lowest temperature in Himachal Pradesh was recorded at tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong at 8.2 degrees Celsius. After brief respite, Jammu sizzles at 39.8 deg C

After a brief respite, the mercury rose several notches in Jammu and Kashmir's winter capital, Jammu, on Tuesday, with the maximum temperature settling at 39.8 degrees Celsius -- 2.1 degrees above normal, a Meteorological Department spokesperson said. Jammu had on Monday recorded a high of 32 degrees Celsius. The day temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, also rose to 27.5 degrees Celsius against the previous day's 24.7 degrees Celsius, the spokesperson said. The day temperature in the city, however, remained 3.1 notches below normal, the spokesperson said. Katra town, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, was the second hottest place in the state with a high of 37.1 degrees Celsius, the weather department said. The day temperature across Jammu and Kashmir rose owing to clear skies, it said. The MeT department has forecast mainly dry weather in the state till July 5.
