ICC thanks CWI for successful hosting of U19 Men's World Cup 2022

The International Cricket Council on Tuesday thanked Cricket West Indies for the successful hosting of the ICC Under 19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2022.The event, which showcases the future stars of the game, took place from January 14 to February 5 and saw India crowned champions after 48 games of exciting and competitive cricket.With 16 teams competing across four host countries, Guyana, St Kitts, and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, and Antigua and Barbuda, the event was successfully and safely delivered with India lifting the trophy for a record fifth time.ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice in an official release said: "We are delighted with the successful hosting of the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2022. The scale of the operation, hosting 16 teams across four countries during a global pandemic is extremely challenging, but our hosts did an excellent job to ensure we could give the opportunity to the future stars of the game to play in a World Cup.""We share our thanks with Cricket .

England followed up its heavy Ashes defeat with a nine-wicket loss to West Indies in their Twenty20 series opener on Saturday. England was all out for 103 in 19.4 overs after recovering from 39-6 at the halfway stage before West Indies reached 104-1 with nine wickets and 17 balls to spare. After being asked to bat first on a tricky pitch with inconsistent bounce, England lurched to 10-3 and 49-7 as its Ashes batting woes transferred to the Caribbean at the outset of this five-match series. Lower-order batters Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid spared England's blushes to some extent but West Indies was rarely troubled in its pursuit. Jordan top-scored for England with 28 from 23 balls and was one of only four batters to make double figures in a much-changed lineup for the tourists, without the likes of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes after their Ashes exertions. Shamarh Brooks and Kieron Pollard starred with the bat as West Indies defeated Ireland by 24 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series here at the Sabina Park on Sunday.With this win, the hosts have gained a 1-0 lead with the second ODI set to be played on Tuesday.Chasing 270, Ireland batters were not able to support skipper Andrew Balbirnie and Harry Tector and only these two batters managed to stay at the crease for a long haul.
