New York/ Karachi, May 14 (ANI): United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon slammed the deadly bus attack in Pakistan's port city of Karachi. Ban extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Pakistan. He wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured. Meanwhile, a national day of mourning is being observed across Pakistan on Thursday over the tragic terror attack on a bus in Karachi on Wednesday which claimed the lives of 45 people. Unidentified gunmen opened fire inside a bus carrying Ismaili Muslims, a sub-sect of the Shi'ite community, near the Safoora Chowk area in the provincial capital of Sindh.
Xi'an, May 14 (ANI): Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar informed that a wide ranging and very detailed Indo-China delegation level talks were held in Xi'an on Thursday. He added that there was a discussion on strengthening trust and increasing convergence. The issue of trade deficit was also discussed. A rescue mission to find eight members of a missing United States Marine group also continued after their helicopter went down. The US helicopter was delivering aid in Dolakha, one of the districts hit hardest by both quakes. It went missing after the second earthquake in less than three weeks hit Nepal, killing scores of people and sending panicked residents rushing out of buildings. Hundreds of Nepali troops and helicopters joined the search for the six Marines and two Nepali troops who were on board. Meanwhile, residents of Kathmandu continued to camp out in the streets after a strong earthquake hit Nepal for the second time. The Yogi Yoga School, which was founded by yoga guru Mohan Bhardari and his Chinese wife, Yin Yan twelve years ago has already enrolled 6,000 students in China. Kathmandu, May 14 (ANI): The United Nations has said that it is facing a "monumental challenge" to provide relief assistance to earthquake victims in Nepal due to logistical and terrain issues as it tries to reach the number of affected people after another strong earthquake rocked the Himalayan nation. The UN said there are no plans to increase its flash appeal of $423 million to carry out humanitarian relief in the country following the second earthquake. So far only 15 percent of the total has been raised. The UN is also facing problems accessing people affected by both quakes. In a government meeting after the quake, Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala vowed to provide relief mission by all means.

Kabul, May 14 (ANI): An attack at a guesthouse in Afghanistan's capital Kabul ended with at least five deaths, police said. A US citizen and two Indian nationals are reported to be among five people killed after gunmen stormed the guesthouse as it hosted a party for foreigners.

Geneva, May 13 (ANI): The United Nations said they feared the worst after a fresh 7.3-magnitude earthquake, followed by many powerful aftershocks, struck Nepal, killing more than two dozen people in the Himalayan country. The earthquake was centred 68 kilometres (42 miles) west of the town of Namche Bazaar, close to Mount Everest and the border with Tibet, the US Geological Survey said. It could be felt as far away as northern India and Bangladesh. This quake was followed by powerful aftershocks, Laerke said. Nepal is still picking up the pieces from the devastation caused by last month's 7.8-magnitude earthquake, the country's worst in more than 80 years, which killed at least 8,046 people and injured more than 17,800.
Dhunche, May 13 (ANI): A second earthquake struck Nepal causing a large landslide in the north of the country in Dhunche. Huge amounts of rocks and mud crashed down the mountain, scattering debris over the buildings at its base and sending plumes of dust into the air. It was unknown if the slide had caused any casualties. The 7.3 magnitude earthquake has killed more than 50 people and left over a thousand injured. Most of the reported fatalities were in villages to the east of Kathmandu, which are only just beginning to recover after the April 25 quake that left more than 8,000 people dead. Many buildings already weakened by the first earthquake less than three weeks ago have also been brought down.
Karachi, May 13 (ANI): A passenger bus in Karachi came under attack on Wednesday by gunmen, who killed at least 41 people and injured nearly 20 others. Six gunmen on motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on a passenger bus in Karachi's Safora Chowrangi area. More than 60 people, including children, of the minority Ismaili Shia community were said to be travelling in the bus. Some reports suggest that the gunmen entered the bus and then opened fire. The attackers then fled the spot. The motive behind the attack is unclear, and no terror group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The Ismaili passengers, who belong to the Shia Muslims community, were the target of the attack, the police have reportedly said. The bus belonged to the Ismaili housing project - Al-Azhar Garden Colony - based in Karachi.

In Nepal's capital Kathmandu, people immediately ran to the streets out of their buildings, some injured and some crying. There was also another wave of exodus, with people trying to get onto any vehicles leaving Kathmandu. Many of the injured were taken by police and army to Kathmandu's oldest hospital.

Kathmandu, May 12 (ANI): Sixteen days after one of the deadliest tragedies in their country's history, Nepali people were unhappy with the lethargic response of their government in providing aid to the affected communities. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on April 25, killing nearly 8,000 people and leaving more than 16,000 injured. People complained the government was not only slow in helping them with the initial tragedy, but its response has been tepid even over two weeks after the disaster. Sujan Bajr Acharya, one of the residents living near Kathmandu's historic Durbar Square, said everyone was left to protect and fend for himself in the immediate aftermath of the quake. The Nepali government had also received flak from multilateral funding agencies like the United Nations for holding up vital relief supplies at the airport for customs inspections. Karachi, May 12 (ANI): Pakistan authorities have seized huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled liquor worth millions of rupees during a raid on a truck in the volatile province of Baluchistan, a coast guard official said. The fine quality contraband was smuggled through sea route and was being brought to Karachi when the attempt was foiled through a timely and successful action by the coast guards on Sunday, the official said. Colonel Mohamad Irfan, deputy director general of coast guards said, upon receiving information from intelligence sources about the smuggling of liquor in General Area Liyari in Baluchistan, a special mobile team was deployed for snap checking. The checking team spotted the truck and tried to stop it. However the driver did not stop and tried to escape. The coast guard team chased the truck and after few kilometers managed to stop it.
