Pepper futures for April spurted by Rs 265, or 0.78%, to Rs 34,220 per quintal in 380 lots.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the March contract gained Rs 190, or 0.55%, to Rs 34,930 per quintal in 1,179 lots.

Pick-up in spot demand and covering-up of short positions supported the trade.
 
Fresh positions by speculators helped the pepper futures.
