Diwali bonus for MCD workers: We're trying to fix system, says Kejriwal

The AAP-led MCD on Tuesday announced that the municipal corporation's employees of three categories and daily-wage workers will get a bonus as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that "good work" is happening in the civic body and "we are trying to fix the system gradually". Kejriwal and Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi both termed it a "big gift" for the MCD employees on Diwali. At a press conference held at Civic Centre earlier in the day, Oberoi said that besides non-gazetted employees of group 'D' and 'C' categories, and daily salaried employees of group 'B' category, daily-wage workers who have done 240 days of work in the last three years will also receive a bonus. Later, Kejriwal also held a short online press conference and lauded the decision of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to give Diwali bonuses to its non-gazetted employees from the three different categories and daily-wage workers. Referring to the recent move to regularise a large number of sanitation workers,

Kejriwal recommends suspension of DPCC chairman, sends file to LG: Report

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday recommended to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena the suspension of DPCC chairman Ashwani Kumar for allegedly stopping a study to ascertain pollution sources in Delhi and shutting down an anti-smog tower, government sources said. The file recommending the suspension of Kumar, a senior IAS officer and principal secretary (home) in the Delhi government, has been sent to Saxena, they said. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had recently alleged that Kumar stalled a source apportionment study by IIT-Kanpur that was approved by the Delhi Cabinet and wrote to Kejriwal demanding his suspension. It was also alleged by Rai that the anti-smog tower in Connaught Place was shut down by Kumar, who took up the role of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) chairman in December last year. No immediate reaction was available from Kumar.

HC stays court summons to Arvind Kejriwal's wife over name in 2 voter lists

The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed a lower court summons to Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, for allegedly violating the law by getting herself enrolled in voter lists of two assembly constituencies. Justice Amit Bansal issued notice to the State as well as the complainant on Sunita Kejriwal's plea challenging the trial court order asking her to appear before it on November 18 in connection with the allegation. Meanwhile, there shall be a stay on the operation of the impugned order, the court ordered as it listed the matter for further hearing on February 1. BJP leader Harish Khurana has alleged in his complaint that the chief minister's wife has violated the provisions of the Representation of the People (RP) Act. Khurana claimed Sunita Kejriwal was registered as a voter on the electoral rolls of Sahibabad assembly constituency (parliamentary constituency Ghaziabad), UP, and also in the Chandni Chowk assembly constituency in Delhi, which was in ...

Delhi grappling with severe AQI, Kejriwal doing 'political tourism': BJP

The Delhi BJP on Friday accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of indulging in "political tourism" at a time when the city residents are facing severe air pollution. The "inaction and insensitivity" of the Kejriwal government has turned Delhi into a "gas chamber", said Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva. There was no immediate reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which is in power in the national capital. "The AQI has reached 700 in Anand Vihar. Yesterday alone there were around 1,600 incidents of parali (paddy stubble) burning in Punjab. The next 48 hours are going to be very dreadful for Delhi," Sachdeva said in a statement. Sachdeva asked the Delhi chief minister about the status of smog towers, air purifiers, and water sprinklers to control the rising pollution. "Unfortunately, Kejriwal is busy with political tourism and there is no one to control air pollution. Delhiites are complaining of itching and breathlessness and children are falling ill. Only Kejriwal is respons

AAP, BJP engage in war of words after Arvind Kejriwal skips ED summons

A war of words erupted between the BJP and the AAP on Thursday as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal skipped the Enforcement Directorate's summons in a case linked to the alleged excise policy scam saying it was "illegal and politically motivated". The BJP flayed Kejriwal for "running away" from the ED summons and said he does not want to face the truth, while the AAP hit back saying that the summons was "politically motivated". The BJP's Delhi unit also staged a protest at the Rajghat demanding Kejriwal's resignation over the alleged excise policy scam. "Arvind Kejriwal ran away from the ED's summons. He does not want to face the truth.... It won't be an exaggeration to say that the Delhi liquor scam king has accepted that he was involved in liquor scam and corruption," BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra told a press conference here. Patra asserted that the ED issues summons based on facts and evidence but Kejriwal is running away from facing the probe agency's questions ...

Defying ED summons, Kejriwal takes part in election roadshow in MP

Defying the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons, Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday took part in a roadshow for the party's Assembly elections candidate in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli city. He was accompanied by Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann. Kejriwal, who is the AAP's national convener, did not appear before the ED for questioning in the Delhi excise policy-linked case earlier in the day, and instead wrote to the agency demanding the withdrawal of the notice summoning him claiming it was "illegal and politically motivated". He and Mann took part in a roadshow here for the party candidate from Singrauli and AAP's state president Rani Agrawal. Agrawal is also the mayor of the Singrauli city, a major electricity generation hub. She won the mayoral election last year, springing a surprise in a state dominated by the BJP and Congress. The polls for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly will be held on November 17.
