Adidas launches its first all-women store

Our Bureau Bangalore
Adidas has launched its first showroom run by women and exclusively for women in the country in Bangalore. The showroom will stock a wide range of products from footwear to apparel.

"We opened it in Bangalore because of the space available here and the life style of the people here," said Andreas Gellner, managing director, Adidas India Marketing Pvt Ltd. He added that Adidas will also open showrooms in Mumbai and Delhi this year.

Gellener said that 85 per cent of the products are manufactured in India because of the low-cost advantage.

There is every possibility that India could be supply base for the rest of South Asia. He attributed this to the cheap labour available here, compared to China where scarcity of labour is a big problem.

Adidas will launch its 'industry defining' shoes for cricket by September 2005.

He also said that the company is getting a good response to its recently launched shoes named 'intelligent' although he declined to reveal the number of units sold. He also said that in the next 3-4 years India could become the third biggest market in Asia.

Adidas, which is the official sponsor of World Cup football to be held in Germany next year, will begin launching its world cup products from November this year, starting with the official ball.

Adidas is also the official sponsor of the Beijing Olympics to be held in 2008.
