Celkon to partner Chinese firm to strengthen R&D

Celkon's current unit at Hyderabad had the capacity to assemble feature and smartphones of up to Rs 3,000

Celkon Impex, a Hyderabad-based manufacturer of mobile handsets,  is looking forward to tie up with a Chinese company to strengthen its design house in China, said its chief executive officer Y Guru.

“We are also planning to set up a research and development (R&D) facility in India, and are looking at cities like Bengaluru and Noida for the same,” he said, while declining to comment further.

Speaking to mediapersons at the launch of the company's new mobile model Millennia 2GB Xpress here on Thursday, Guru said Celkon’s current unit at Hyderabad had the capacity to assemble feature and smartphones of up to Rs 3,000 and would upgrade the facility to assemble smartphones of up to Rs 5,000 from next week.
 

The Celkon Millennia 2GB Xpress, which runs on the Android Kit Kat operating system, comes with features including 2GB RAM and an internal memory of16GB, and a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor under its hood, he said, adding that the new phone was priced at Rs 6,222.
