In a fresh industry-institute partnership, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has signed an agreement with JSW Steel Limited for setting up a school of public policy.
While the firm would fund the project, the school would be run by the institute. According to the pact, JSW Steel Ltd will be making a contribution of over Rs 50 crore, which will be utilised for establishing and operating (including infrastructure, research and teaching, faculty and staff salaries) the JSW School of Public Policy.
Ashish Nanda, director, IIM-A, said, "A group of experts, including faculty members, will come up with a plan on duration, content and other details about the programme that we intend to offer in the school and eligibility criteria for students, among other things."
"Public policy has not received adequate attention in our country. We feel that the vision of new India needs discourse and deeper understanding of this subject; the School of Public Policy will contribute immensely towards this cause. When we thought of their initiative, we could not think of a better place than IIM-A to set this up," said Sajjan Jindal CMD, JSW Steel Limited.
"We will be able to institutionalise knowledge-creation and dissemination in the domain of public policy so that it can be put to larger public use. The school will integrate existing research, teaching and engagement with policy-makers and implementers, and will also give us an opportunity to strengthen and develop these activities in the sphere of public policy, " said Nanda.
